Summary In a growing trial with 32 Simmental bulls the impact of ActiProt (DDGS of wheat and maize, produced in Pischelsdorf, Austria) on growth and slaughter performance was investigated. 32 bulls were divided in 2 groups (KG, VG) and 4 pens with á 8 animals. Maize silage was fed ad libitum and 2.5 kg/d protein concentrate with 27 % protein. Protein concentrate of KG was without ActiProt and of VG with 38 % ActiProt (50 % of the soya-protein was replaced by ActiProt-protein). The nutrient content of ActiProt was: 91.3 % DM, 11.98 MJME/kg, 32.3 % protein, 8.5 % fat, 7.3 % fibre, 0.14 % Ca, 0.91 % P, and 0.83 % sodium. The LW at the start was 172 kg and at the end of the growth period 710 (KG) and 717 kg (VG). The average daily LW-gain of KG was 1510 g and of VG 1529 g. The need of ME and protein per kg LW-gain was in the KG 66.6 MJ und 732 g and in the VG 66.5 MJ und 723 g. The dressing-% in both groups was 56.8. The commercial meat and fat class in the KG was 2.13 and 3.00, and in the VG 1.94 and 3.00. Both classes were in a good range. The results of this trial show, that ActiProt is a high valuable protein feed stuff and can replace soybean meal in a high amount in protein concentrates for beef.
