Modellieren am Körper
Mode entwerfen ist für mich wie Modellieren am Körper. Jeder Kör-
per ist anders, daher trägt jeder seine Kleidung anders. Ein Entwurf
kann nie ausschließlich am Reißbrett entstehen. Zum Leben kommt
Mode erst durch die Person, die sie trägt. Das gilt auch für einen Kleiderschrank.
Ein Schrank ist ein leerer und anonymer Gegenstand, bis
jemand den Schrank auffüllt. Nach und nach, Stück für Stück. Mit jedem
neuen Kleidungsstück wird der Charakter ein bisschen deutlicher.
Maßarbeit ist per Definition einzigartig und auf den Leib geschneidert.
Sie bietet einen Mehrwert. Ich will eine gewisse Individualität schaffen.
Ich stelle Ideen zur Verfügung und beziehe meine Kunden in den
Prozess mit ein. Das ist wichtig. Ich mache nie konkrete Vorschläge,
sondern gebe nur die Richtung vor. Ich wähle Material, Farbe und
Form aus. Ein Teil von mir ist nie unverbindlich. Ich verlange auch
etwas vom Kunden. Oft sind vier Sitzungen nötig, um zum gewünschten
Ergebnis zu kommen. Das ist eine Investition von Seiten des
Kunden. Ich lerne auch sehr viel bei diesen Treffen. Manchmal will
ein Kunde etwas, das ich von mir selbst aus nie tun würde. Dann
fühle ich mich herausgefordert, angeregt, etwas daraus zu machen.
Das nenne ich gegenseitige Inspiration. In allen Fällen ist die Zusammenarbeit
mit dem Kunden entscheidend für das Endergebnis.
Handwerk steht für Hingabe
Der Beruf des Modeschöpfers regt immer noch die Fantasie vieler
Menschen an. Dass dieser Beruf auch Können erfordert, scheint immer
mehr in den Hintergrund gedrängt zu werden. Die neue Generation
konzentriert sich in erster Linie auf Design und Marketing,
aber an der Ausführung hapert es oft. Für das Endergebnis ist es sehr
wichtig, die richtigen Techniken zu beherrschen. Handwerk steht
für Hingabe. In den Konfektionsfabriken wird nur selten mit Hingabe
gearbeitet. Wenn jeder nur noch für einen kleinen Teil verantwortlich
ist, wer hat dann den Überblick über alles? Ich habe zwei
Jahre mit Eduard van Rijn, einem Vollblutprofi gearbeitet. In dieser
Zeit habe ich viele technische Dinge gelernt. Es geht darum, bei dem
Entwurf, den man vor Augen hat, keine Zugeständnisse zu machen.
Die Technik ermöglicht es dann, diesen Entwurf genauso umzusetzen.

Sculpting on the body
Design to me is sculpting on the body. Each body is different, so everyone wears clothing diffe-
rently. This is why a design cannot originate solely from the drawing board. Something only co-
mes to life through the user. The same applies to a wardrobe. It is an empty and anonymous object
until someone fills it. Bit by bit. Every piece of clothing gives it more character. Custom-designed
goods are unique by definition and particularly suited to the individual. I want to offer added
value and create a certain individuality. I enrich ideas and sweep clients up in the process.
This is important. I never bring concrete proposals to the table, but rather directions; explorations
of material, colour and shape. My pieces are never free of obligation. I also require something of the
customer. I often need four sessions with them to achieve the desired results. This takes an investment
from the customer side of things. I also get a lot out of these meetings. Sometimes the client wants
something that I personally would never do. In this situation, I feel challenged, stimulated to make
something of it. That is mutual inspiration. In every circumstance, my cooperation with the customer
determines the end result.
Craft means attention to detail
The fashion designer’s profession still appeals to the imagination of many people. The fact that it
is a profession that requires workmanship is something that increasingly appears to be fading into
the background. The new generation focuses chiefly on design and marketing, but is found lacking
from a performance perspective. Having a command of the correct techniques has a huge
impact on the final result. Craft means attention to detail. Not enough attention is paid at garment
factories. If everyone controls their own part only, who oversees the entire process? For two
years I worked with Eduard van Rijn, a born and bred professional. During that time I gained
a great deal of technical insight and learned a lot. The process is about creating a design you have
in mind without concessions. Technology makes it possible to create that which is in your head.

Viceversa is Noteborn’s most personal programme. It offers you
the freedom to create exactly the space you have in mind. Different
varieties are available: Viceversa 35, Viceversa 45 and Viceversa 55.
The number indicates the thickness of the profile in millimetres. Each
range can be combined with different handles.

Viceversa 55 ist ein robustes Profil in klassischem Aluminium oder mit
einem der fünf lieferbaren Holzdesigns ummantelt. So entsteht eine
schlichte Schrankwand mit einer natürlichen Umrahmung sowie Boden-

Ständige Weiterentwicklung
Ich bin Architekt, aber dieses Schubladendenken finde ich
immer weniger relevant. Unser Büro macht Dinge, die viel
breiter gefasst sind. Indem wir über die Grenzen unserer Disziplinen
hinausgehen, können wir gemeinsam überraschende
Ergebnisse erreichen. In letzter Zeit beschäftige ich mich immer
mehr mit dem Nachdenken über Markenidentitäten und
deren Umsetzung in 3D. Das Markendenken erlebt derzeit
eine starke Entwicklung, aber vor allem auf dem Gebiet der
gegenständlichen Umsetzung einer Identität in Inneneinrichtung
und Ladenkonzepte gibt es noch viel zu tun. Wie kann
man Menschen mitreißen und das Gefühl einer Marke spüren
lassen? Das ist eine äußerst interessante Frage. Daneben
beschäftige ich mich auch noch mit vielen anderen Dingen.
Vor Kurzem habe ich zusammen mit einigen Leuten hier eine
eigene Möbellinie entwickelt. So waren wir auf einmal unser
eigener Auftraggeber. Auch das ist sehr lehrreich. Man muss
sich selbst ständig weiterentwickeln, darum geht es.
Wohnen und arbeiten ohne Grenzen
Ich wohne und arbeite in einem Gebäude aus dem 17. Jahrhundert
im Zentrum von Maastricht. Es war das erste Haus
unter Denkmalschutz, das ich als Architekt betreut habe. Das
war sehr interessant, weil ich meine Grenzen wirklich erweitern
konnte. Wir haben dafür den ‚Monumentenprijs Maastricht‘
bekommen. Die Büro- und Wohnräume sind nicht
strikt voneinander getrennt, sondern gehen ineinander über.
Ich spüre die Grenze zwischen Wohnen und Arbeiten auch gar
nicht mehr. Für mich ist die Trennung von Ort und Zeit überhaupt
nicht relevant. Ich finde es sogar angenehm, in einer Umgebung
zu sein, die sich nicht festlegt. Für mich muss nicht alles
eindimensional sein. Aber damit spreche ich wirklich nur für
mich selbst. Wenn ich für Kunden plane, bin ich völlig wertfrei.
Ich biete eine Dienstleistung: Schließlich muss der Kunde dort
leben. Darum geht es. Jedes Projekt steht allein für sich selbst,
das ist die wahre Bedeutung von Individuals für mich.

Continue developing
I am an architect through and through, but I find that compartmentalised
thinking is becoming less and less relevant. In
our office, we take a much broader approach. We transcend
the various disciplines to create surprising results together.
And so I increasingly work on brand identity and the translation
of that into 3D. Brand thinking is developing fast, but
there is still much to be achieved in embodying interiors and
store concept identities. How do you include people the brand
experience? It’s an interesting question. I work on a number
of other things besides this issue. Recently I set up our own
line of furniture with a number people here. We suddenly
became our own client. That too was very educational. The
important thing to remember is that it is about continued
self-development.
Living and working without limits
I live and work in a 17th century building in the centre of
Maastricht. It is the first listed building that I have ever dealt
with as an architect. It was very interesting, because I could
really push my boundaries. We received the Maastricht Monument
Award for it. The office and living spaces are not strictly
separated, but flow into one another. I no longer feel the line
between living and working anymore. To me, the separation of
place and time is entirely irrelevant. I actually enjoy being in
an environment that is not clear-cut- I don’t want everything
to be so one dimensional. But that’s when I have the opportunity
to speak for myself, right? When I am creating designs
for a customer, I adopt a value-free position. An instrumental
position; the customer needs to live in that environment afterwards.
That’s what it is about. Each project stands alone, that
is the true meaning of the word individual to me.

Couture macht keinen Unterschied zwischen Wohnen und Arbeiten, zwischen
Ablage und Präsentation. Es ist ein System, das auf das Wesentliche reduziert ist.
Der Rahmen ist nur 5 mm breit. Ist Ihnen auch das noch zu viel? Dann führen wir
Couture für Sie komplett rahmenlos aus. Das ist wirklich einzigartig! Insbesondere
da Ihre Entwurfsmöglichkeiten unbegrenzt bleiben. Sie können zum Beispiel
die Vorder- und Rückseite der Türen mit unterschiedlichem Dekor versehen.
Dadurch wird es beispielsweise möglich, Ihren Schrank auf der Außenseite in
Spiegelglas und auf der Innenseite in weißem Glas auszuführen! Couture verfügt
zusätzlich auch noch über eine typische Noteborn-Innovation: eine komplett
verstellbare Deckenschiene. Couture formt sich nach Ihrem Charakter.
Couture does not differentiate between living and working, between hiding and
presenting. This is a system stripped back to its purest essence. The frame is just
5 millimetres. Still think that’s too much? Then we can create the Couture without
frames. That is truly unique! Mainly because your design possibilities remain
unlimited. This means that you can decorate the inside and the outside of the
doors with different designs. For example, perhaps the outside in mirror glass
and the inside with white glass! Couture also comes with a typical Noteborn innovation:
a 100% adjustable ceiling rail. Couture adapts to your character.

Schicht nach Schicht
Ich schaffe abstrakte Arbeiten, in denen ich oft dicke Farbschichten in Kombination mit Materialien und
Gegenständen, die ich auf Flohmärkten finde, verwende. Sachen mit einer Vergangenheit, die – als Teil
meines Werks – ein neues Leben bekommen. Das Gegenständliche, Motorische des Malens finde ich herrlich,
die Kraft, die man dafür benötigt, den Rhythmus. Ein Bild kann leicht dutzende Schichten und viele Materialien
und Gegenstände enthalten. Ich habe keinen vorgefassten Plan, davon würden meine Arbeiten nicht
besser werden. Alles verläuft spontan. Schicht nach Schicht. Diese Vielschichtigkeit, dieses Dreidimensionale
finde ich interessant. Ich versuche immer, viel Farbe in meine Arbeiten zu bringen, aber lande nach und
nach doch immer wieder bei Erdtönen und viel Schwarz. Langsam entsteht das Werk, so wie es sein soll.
Ordnung im Chaos
Ich lege viel Wert auf meine Einrichtung. Ich liebe Abwechslung und viel Farbe und gleichzeitig Schlichtheit
und Organisiertheit. Eine tiefviolette Wand mit einem tiefvioletten Sofa davor. Man könnte
sagen, dass es bei meiner Einrichtung so wie bei meiner Malerei um Ordnung im Chaos geht. Eine ungeordnete
Menge an Pinselstrichen und Materialien zu einer Komposition vereinigen. Und zu Hause:
mit sehr viel kleinem Schnickschnack doch einen gewissen Rhythmus, eine gewisse Ruhe schaffen.
Eine hektische Ecke mit sehr vielen Fotorahmen, dann eine ganze Weile nichts, dann eine Ecke mit einem
übervollen Bücherregal. Die Ruhe, die sich dazwischen befindet, sorgt für Kontrast und Rhythmik.

Layer upon layer
I create abstract works in which I often use thick layers of paint in combination with materials and objects I find
at flea markets. Things with a past, given a new life as part of my work. The physical, motor side of painting is a joy.
The strength needed to paint, the rhythm. A canvas can easily contain dozens of layers and many materials and
objects. I never have a predetermined plan; it would not improve my work. Everything happens spontaneously.
Layer upon layer. I find the layering, the three-dimensionality, interesting. I always try to bring a lot of colour to
my work, but always return bit by bit to earth tones and a lot of black. The work slowly becomes what it should.
Order within chaos
I attach a great deal of value to my interior. I love a lot of variety and colour and at the same time I
also love a restrained and organised feel. A deep purple wall with a deep purple couch in front of
it. You might say that both in my interior design as in my paintings, the central theme is order within
chaos. Bringing together an unordered quantity of brushstrokes and materials together to form a composition.
And in the home: a large amount of random stuff comes together to create a certain rhythm,
a certain peace. A hectic corner with lots of photo frames, then a wide expanse of nothing, then a corner
with an over-stuffed bookcase. The peace in between these things creates accord and rhythm.

The heart of every Noteborn is its interior. Interiors are available in three widths, from robust to wafer-thin (less than 2 cm). Together with your
Noteborn consultant you can select fixed and movable shelves, pull-out shelves and corner elements. Drawers are available as standard boxes or
custom-made (fitted with a soft mechanism). In addition to neutral white, we can offer you nine different shades of colour, from timeless tobacco

entstehen Schiebetüren, begehbare Schränke, Sideboards oder Raumteiler, welche perfekt mit den übrigen Farben der Einrichtung harmonieren.

Besides dimensions, Noteborn is also happy to leave the colour scheme entirely to you. Noteborn interiors are available in ten preselected
colour combinations. You can also choose from more than hundredfifty different patterns for your doors. This means that there
will always be a sliding door, walk-in closet, and sideboard or room divider to match the colour scheme of your interior. Would you
prefer bamboo or deep-black lacquered glass? We can make it all easier for you, but nobody can choose better than you can.

Nach längere Produktentwicklung stellen wir eine neue Kollektion von Türen mit Vinyl-Dekor vor. Diese Beschichtung, die wir als „dauerhafte
Türpolsterung“ bezeichnen, ist eine echte Neuheit in der Welt des Designs von Schrankwände. Das Vinyl ist von hoher Qualität, komplett
abriebfest und abwaschbar. Es lässt sich problemlos pflegen und ist genauso haltbar wie die übrigen Türen von Noteborn. Die Vinyltüren von
Noteborn wurden speziell für diejenigen entwickelt, die ihre Inneneinrichtung aufwerten wollen und sich nicht mit konventionellen Lösungen
zufrieden geben. Das ist ein perfektes Beispiel für alles, wofür Noteborn Individuals steht. Es sind vier Designs in fünf verschiedenen Farbvariationen
erhältlich. Stilvolle Ausführungen, die sich auch gut mit anderen Türdekoren kombinieren lassen, z.B. lackiertem Glas, unifarben (eine Farbe),
Holzdekor und Spiegeltüren. Insbesondere durch die Kombination entsteht ein individuelles Design.
After a long period of product development, we are launching a new collection of doors with vinyl decor. We call it ‘durable door upholstery’,
a completely new phenomenon in the world of dressings and wall units. The vinyl is of the very best quality, completely wear-resistant and
washable. It is easy to maintain and is just as durable as any in Noteborn’s range of doors. Noteborn vinyl doors have been specially developed
for those wishing to add character to their interior and in doing so love looking further than conventional solutions. This is a perfect example
of what Noteborn Individuals stands for. The doors are available in four designs, in five different colour combinations. Stylish prints that can be
combined with other door decors such as painted glass, unicolour (one beautiful colour), wood decor and mirror doors. It is the combination
