The purpose of the workshop is to help therapists begin to do schema mode work with their patients.
Often therapists have difficulty in beginning schema mode work, either because they have difficulty
recognizing schema modes, knowing how to intervene, or having the confidence to feel that they are
doing the interventions properly. In this workshop, we will be taking a mostly experiential approach
to teaching schema mode work, focusing on doing role playing exercises. The format will involve
demonstration role plays, followed by opportunities to pair up with other therapists and practice
various techniques, with the help of coaches.
Requirements: Participants must have already taken an introductory workshop on Schema Focused
Therapy and be familiar with the concept of schema modes
Preparation: You should be prepared to play the role of one or two of
your patients.
Reading: The basic text for this course is, Young, J. E., Klosko, J., & Weishaar, M. (2003).
Schema Therapy: A Practitioner's Guide. New York, USA: The Guilford Press. For this workshop,
please read chapters 8-10.
