Inmitten des urbanen Raums von Barcelona präsentierte
Audi während des Salón Internacional del Automóvil im Mai 2011 seine neue Geländelimousine
– den Audi Q3. Unweit des Stadtzentrums und in der Nähe des Hafens der katalanischen Hauptstadt
errichteten KMS BLACKSPACE und SCHMIDHUBER einen temporären Stahlbau, dessen Fassade
vollständig verspiegelt war. Dieser Kubus mit quadratischer Grundfläche maß zwar eine Höhe von
14 Metern, schien jedoch dank seiner Spiegelfassade mit der Umgebung beinahe zu verschmelzen:
Der „Audi Qube3“ reflektierte Häuser, Passanten und natürlich auch die Automobile, die drei Seiten
des auffällig unauffälligen Quaders flankierten. Die Mehrdimensionalität, die durch die Spiegelfassade
entstand, sollte dabei die vielen facettenreichen Einsatzmöglichkeiten des SUV zum Ausdruck
bringen. Dementsprechend präsentierte sich auch das Innere des Pavillons als Raum-im-
Raum-Konzept, dessen Kern ebenfalls aus verspiegelten Wänden bestand. ▶
SELF REFLECTION
Downtown Barcelona was the venue chosen by Audi for the
presentation of its new off-road limousine, the Audi Q3, during the Salón Internacional del Automóvil
in May 2011. Not far from the city centre and near the harbour of the Catalan capital, KMS
BLACKSPACE and SCHMIDHUBER built a temporary steel structure whose facade was completely
mirrored. Although the cube with square footprint was 14 metres in height, thanks to its mirrored
facade it almost seemed to blend into its environment: The “Audi Qube3” reflected houses, passersby
and of course the cars which flanked three sides of the conspicuously inconspicuous cuboid. The
multiple dimensionality created by the mirrored facade was intended to represent the multifaceted
uses of the SUV. Accordingly, the interior of the pavilion also consisted of a room-in-room concept,
the core of which was built of mirrored walls. ▶

Auf dem Themenparcours wurden verschiedene Gegenstände präsentiert, die alle in einem Audi Q3 Platz finden würden: vom schicken Damenschuh
bis hin zum sportlichen Fahrrad – alle komplett schwarz lackiert. Along the themed course, various objects were presented which
you might find in an Audi Q3: from a chic ladies' shoe to a sporty bicycle – all varnished in black.
Teile der Fassade waren in Spionglas ausgeführt, das den Besuchern beim Rundgang immer wieder neue Ausblicke auf die im Außenbereich
stehenden Fahrzeuge freigab. Parts of the facade were made of spyglass which allowed the visitors to catch different glimpses of the vehicles
on the outside as they followed round the course.
Hier waren die Besucher beim Betreten sowohl Zuschauer als auch selbst Teil eines eindrucksvollen Schauspiels:
Der Raum vervielfachte nicht nur ihre Anwesenheit, sondern auch die des in der Mitte auf einer
Drehbühne platzierten Audi-Geländewagens bis ins Unendliche. Beim Verlassen des Innenraums gelangten
sie schließlich auf einen umlaufenden Themenparcours, dessen Wandgrafiken, Installationen und interaktive
Exponate wesentliche Merkmale des Audi Q3 (be-)greifbar machen sollten. Nach der Premiere in Barcelona
war der reflektierende Kubus außerdem noch in Paris und München zu sehen.
As they entered the pavilion, the visitors became both audience and part of an impressive spectacle: the
room not only multiplied their presence into infinity, but also the Audi off-road vehicle placed in the middle
of a revolving stage. As they left the innermost room, they found themselves on a themed course whose
wall graphics, installations and interactive exhibits were intended to make the main features of the Audi Q3
tangible. After the début in Barcelona, the reflective cube was to be seen in Paris and Munich.

In Kombination mit der durch die halbtransparenten Spiegelwände scheinenden Medienbespielung in LED-Technik entstand ein außergewöhnliches
Raumerlebnis. Combined with the LED media projections visible through semi-transparent mirrored walls, the spatial experience was
extraordinary.
