Laying Instructions Congratulations and thank you for choosing tretfordveledo. Please pay close attention to the following instructions to ensure that you have lasting enjoyment with your tretford leather-flooring: 1.The Product tretford-veledo should only be brought into the room after completion of all bricklaying, plastering and tiling work. Prior to laying, the flooring boxes must be stored unopened in the room where they will be laid for 48 hours (in the winter approx. 6 days) at a room temperature of approx. 18 - 20°C and 50 - 65 % relative humidity. Prior to laying inspect the product for the following: - Visible Transportation Damage - Quantity - Design and Colour - Batch Uniformity This information can be found on every box. Complaints must be made immediately in writing. Please understand that possible complaints made after the product has been handled will no longer be considered. Entriegeln Hardwax Oil Ingredients: Soybean Oil Carnauba Wax Candelilla Wax Sunflower Oil Thistle Oil 2.The Sub-Floor Suitable Sub-Floors Are: old floor boards, screed subfloors, also covered with tile or marble, linoleum or PVC. For additional noise impact insulation you may use 2 mm rolled cork, 2 mm foam underlay or corrugated cardboard. Surface irregularities measuring 2 mm or more per metre must be levelled.Adhere to the following moisture values to ensure that the respective sub-floor is ready for laying flooring: Cement Screed < 1.5%, Screed Suitable for Underfloor Heating < 1.0%,Anhydrite Screed < 0.3% CM Measured. In the case of rooms with no underground level or on mineral sub-floors a residual humidity from the concrete floor is to be expected, for which reason a 0.2 mm thick PE foil should be laid out prior to laying the flooring.The foil should overlap at least 20 cm at the seams and should run up several cm above the skirting board. Rooms with no underground levels must be provided with a moisture barrier in accordance with DIN in addition to sufficient thermal/heat insulation. When laying flooring upon old floor boards, lay the new boards crosswise
5 6 7 8 9 10 11 to the direction of the old floor.The old floor must be level and significant surface irregularities must be levelled by sanding or filling. Eliminate any possible "creaking" by screwing down the old boards tightly. 2.1. Expansion Joints To allow tretford-veledo flooring to expand during periods of higher humidity, leave an expansion joint of approx. 10 mm to 15 mm between the walls and the flooring on all sides.Allow for this same expansion joint around all construction elements that protrude out of the floor (heating pipes, door frames, columns etc.). The expansion joints in areas where there are doorways or in front of elevations (stairs, landings) will be covered with transition and end profiles. Expansion joints must be included as well in very large rooms, namely: Lengthwise upwards of 10 m, crosswise upwards of 8 m. Possible construction expansion joints must also be included when laying veledo. 2.2. Underfloor Heating tretford-veledo can be laid over warm water underfloor heating, with provision of a heating protocol. 3. Laying the Flooring Due to its shape and frictional locking connection the toploc System enables quick and easy laying without waiting periods.The toploc System is only suitable for use with floating floor laying. This is How it Works: 1 Always lay your tretford-veledo flooring parallel to the incoming lightfall to ensure a better appearance. 2 First, lay a vapour barrier on the prepared sub-floor (except on wood): PE foil pulled up 5 - 10 cm along the walls, the webs 20 to 30 cm overlapped. Then, where applicable, lay a form of noise impact insulation joint to joint. 3 Now begin laying the flooring (from the left side of the room). Position the first element 10-15 mm away from the bordering walls (use spacer wedges); the grooved side must face the wall. 4 To connect the top joints, push one element as close as possible to the other element and connect the tongue and groove to one another using slight pressure and a hammer and hammer block. Be careful not to damage the groove lock while hammering. 5 All remaining rows can be laid as follows: Lay the new element with the groove side exactly parallel to the element of the previous row, so that both panels are at the same height along their entire lengths.Tap the elements together applying slight pressure and using the hammer and hammer block. 6 Now connect the facing sides as described in point 4. 7 Cut the marked element to length.Tip:To make the cut, turn the element over onto the rear face and only use a jigsaw – this will ensure a clean edge! 8 The offcut piece from the first row forms the starting point for the second row, and so on, etc. Attention: the facing joints from neighbouring rows should be at least 40 cm apart. 9 Include a 10-15 mm wide expansion space in your calculations for cut-outs for heating pipes, etc. 10 If wooden door frames need to be shortened, please also consider the expansion space of 10-15 mm when calculating cuts. 11 For the last row, place the element to be laid in alignment with the second last row. Place another veledo element 10-15 mm from the wall and transfer its position to the element beneath it using a pencil. Cut-to-size, lock in place – done! Skirting Boards/Baseboards After removing the wood wedges, mount the skirting boards to cover the expansion joints. The skirting boards must only be mounted to the wall, not to the floor and they should not clamp the flooring. Special Instructions/Recommendation For additional protection in the edge areas, you may use glue in the tongue and groove! (Apply glue to the grooved side).This provides additional support, and is recommended for heavy-wear areas.Any glue smears must be removed immediately with a slightly damp cloth. Cleaning and Care 1.After Laying the Flooring After laying flooring remove all loose dust or soiling (broom or vacuum cleaner). In the event of heavier soiling on the flooring you may mop with a damp (not wet!) cloth. (Add a mild cleaning agent to the water to prevent possible lime residue from the water). Immediately wipe dry with a dry cloth. 2. Initial Care (required) tretford-veledo can be walked upon immediately after laying. However, initial care and conditioning is necessary. The veledo surface has already been pretreated with hardwax oil and is therefore not absorbent. For this reason, apply only a very thin coat of the wax conditioner (max. 1 teaspoon = 5 ml per m 2 = 0.17 fl oz per 10,76 sq. ft.) to the dry and clean veledo flooring and gently polish once completely dry. Attention: applying too much wax conditioner "smears" the surface and cannot be removed. 3. Ongoing Cleaning and Care When cleaning always make sure, when possible, to only dry mop (with a mop, hand broom, vacuum – do not use micro-fibre cloths or steam cleaners!) or slightly damp (with a wrung out cloth) and not leave "puddles" on the floor. Never allow tretford-veledo to remain moist or wet for any length of time. As a rule, it is sufficient to use a slightly damp mop with veledo-EasyCleaner for ongoing cleaning.This loosens grease and dirt, leaves no streaks or build-up, retains the product wear-resistance and provides lasting care. Coarse dirt and sand act like sanding paper and should therefore be removed from the surface. Even surfaces treated with hardwax oil are subject to natural wear, respective of load. For this reason tretford veledo should be regularly treated with the wax care agent (1/2 tsp. for approx. 1 sqm) on an ongoing basis. This care provides tretford-veledo with wearresistance, durability and water-resistant properties. This facilitates regular maintenance cleaning and lends the floor an appealing silky lustre. The care schedule for using the wax care agent is based on the colour and design as well as the degree of wear (see list): • Floors with low wear (e.g. living rooms and bedrooms) as needed roughly every 4 - 6 months • Floors with normal wear (e.g. corridors, hallways) as needed every 1 - 3 months • Floors with heavy wear (e.g. restaurants, shops) as needed every 2 - 3 weeks Please also observe the instructions for use for the hardwax oil and the wax care product. 4. Correcting Small Spots Gently sand over small scratches and scrapes with very fine sandpaper. Remove all residual swarf.Then, saturate the spot with hardwax oil, allow time to penetrate and finally wipe away any excess with a clean, dry cloth.After approx. 5 - 6 hours sand lightly and treat spot with wax care agent.
