Zur Vita
Günther Schlee ist seit Mai 1999 Direktor am Max-Planck-Institut für ethnologische
Forschung und wissenschaftliches Mitglied der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft. Er leitet am
Max-Planck-Institut für ethnologische Forschung die Abteilung I, „Integration und
Konflikt“. Daneben hat er verschiedene Honorarprofessuren inne. Bis 1999 war er
Professor für Sozialanthropologie an der Universität Bielefeld. Günther Schleee
studierte zuvor Anthropologie, Romanische Sprachen und Sozialsysteme der
Rendille, einer ethnischen Gruppe im Norden Kenias. Neben ausgedehnten
Feldforschungsreisen in Kenia, Äthiopien und dem Sudan war er auch Gastdozent in
Padang (Sumatra) und an der „Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Science Sociales“ in
Paris. Typisch für die Forschungsarbeit Günther Schlees ist die „inter-ethnische“
Vorgehensweise und die Kombination historischer, soziologischer und philologischer
Methoden.
