2008 in den Händen. Was hat sich verändert und wie verändern wir uns immer weiter?
Diese Evolution ist in unserem täglichen Handeln und Entwickeln zu sehen und wir
haben uns intensiv die Frage gestellt, warum man Bionicon kaufen sollte.
Wer sind wir? Um das auszudrücken, verwenden wir in diesem Jahr mehr Bilder.

Alle die sich für Bionicon begeistern, interessieren sich für eine umfassende, ehrliche

Those who have been closely following our background might have held a 2008 Bionicon
catalogue in their hands. What has changed and how have we changed? The evolution
can be seen in our daily work and development. We have intensively asked ourselves why
one should buy a Bionicon.
Who are we? To try and express this we are using more pictures this year. Images of the
people and the landscapes that surround the birthplace of Bionicon - Tegernsee. Meanwhile
Bionicon isn’t just in one spot but extends right around the globe.
We see ourselves and our products in interdependence with our environment and you,
the people who surround and trust us all over the world.
Everyone who is inspired by Bionicon is also interested in an all embracing, honest and
tolerant view to life and it is exactly this approach which we try to reflect in our products.
The products which we develop form a system in which the sum of the individual
components and innovations is greater than that of the parts themselves. Put simply the
best rear derailleur in the world achieves nothing if bolted to a poorly conceived whole
concept.

Die Freude am Mountainbiken kann man unseren Produkten ablesen.
Sie sind gemacht von Menschen, die Lust an diesem Sport haben, die
es geniessen über laubbedeckte Wege zu gleiten und den Wald um
sich zu spüren oder die die grossen Berge bezwingen wollen.
Es ist ein Gefühlssport, der vom Gipfeltriumph mit seinen Freunden
lebt, und es ist ein Sport, bei dem das Equipment eine entscheidende
Rolle spielt.
Aus Erfahrung wird der Fahrer von der Umgebung geprägt, in der er
sich am meisten aufhält. Um der Vielseitigkeit von Mensch und Natur
und somit dem Fahrstil gerecht zu werden, haben wir unsere Produktlinie
so ausgelegt, dass für jeden Fahrertypus in jeder Umgebung
ein passendes Bike zur Verfügung steht. Wir bezeichnen die Auswahl
eines Fahrrades durch den Fahrer als Basisbedürfnis und erweitern
dieses um unser einzigartiges Bionicon Niveaureguliersystem. Dies
erhöht den Einsatzbereich aller unserer Fullys erheblich und macht
Bionicon allen andern Bikes am Markt überlegen.
You can see the passion for mountainbiking in all our products.
They are created by people who love biking, be it the feeling of gliding
over leaf covered trails, conquering mountain peaks or just soaking
up nature. Ours is a sport of feelings and shared triumphs with
friends, yet it is also a sport where equipment plays a crucial role.
Experience shows that riders are shaped by the environment in
which they spend the most time. We have designed our product line
in order to do justice to the huge variety of nature, people and riding
styles. Everyone can find the ideal bike in our range. We describe the
choice of bike by the rider as the basic needs and expand these with
our unique Bionicon geometry adjustment system. This radically
increases the range of use for all of our full suspension bikes and
makes our product superior to anything else on the market.

300g Gewicht gegenüber der Standardvariante des Golden Willows sparen. Die CNC-Details an Wippe
und Rahmen unterstützen den High-Tech Werkstoff und tragen zur Gewichtsreduzierung bei.
Das Golden Willow SC erreicht somit in der mittleren Ausstattungsvariante 12,5Kg.
Al-Li-Scandium is the hardest aluminum alloy made; perfect for fighter jets and Space Shuttle fuel tanks.
Using this material we can save 300 g weight from a frame front triangle compared to the standard Golden
Willow. Extensive CNC details in the frame and linkage underpin the high-tech materials and help to save
further weight.
The Golden Willow SC with a mid level groupset weighs just 27.5 lbs.

THOMAS ALVA EDISON
Das neue Edison ist die vierte Evolutionsstufe unserer bewährtesten Konstruktion.
Aufwändige Hydroforming-Sitzstreben, die am Unterrohr aufliegen und gleichzeitig
die Dämpferaufnahme stützen, sorgen für gleichmäßiges Einleiten der Kräfte in den
Hauptrahmen. Die Wandstärken sind so ausgelegt, dass der Rahmen ein gleichmäßiges
Flexverhalten aufweist und bei groben Seitenschlägen mehr Sicherheit und
Spielraum bietet.

Complex hydro-formed seat stays intersect with the downtube supporting the rear
shock mount whilst simultaneously ensuring that loads applied to the frame are

Die Idee mit nur einem Mountainbike alle Kunden zufrieden zu stellen war der Traum
bei der Erfindung des Bionicon Systems. Das Edison das Rahmenkonzept hierfür.
Einen universellen Rahmen für jeden Mountainbiker zu konstruieren ist wahrscheinlich
unmöglich. Die persönlichen Bedürfnisse eines jeden Bikers beanspruchen ein zu großes
Spektrum um dem gerecht zu werden. Das Edison Konzept hat es aber geschafft dieses
Problem fast vollständig ins Abseits zu drängen.
The classic bike, in white
The idea of satisfying all mountainbikers with just one bike was the dream which led to
the invention of the Bionicon system. The Edison is the basis for this concept.
Making a universal frame for every biker is probably impossible. The personal needs of
each and every rider simply occupy too great a spectrum. However, creating the Edison
concept has almost banished the problem to the wilderness.

Die Doubleagent TA 170mm Federgabel ist die Entscheidung aus dem Supershuttle
Rahmen einen Freerider „light“ zu machen.
Die lineare Stahl-/Luftfeder Kombination erzeugt einen geschmeidigen und
feinfühligen Hub über die gesamte Länge des Federweges und passt optimal zu der
linearen Hinterbaueinheit. Bedämpft werden die massigen 170mm mit einer Ölzugstufenkartusche.
Weitere Merkmale sind die Kurbel mit zwei Kettenblättern 36/22
und die stabile Supra BH Felge.

The Doubleagent TA 170 is the result of the decision to make a “light” freerider
based on the Supershuttle.
The linear coil/air spring combination produces a supple and sensitive stroke over
the entire suspension travel, perfectly complementing the linear rear suspension.
Damping of the 6.7” (170mm) travel is by a hydraulic rebound cartridge. The spec
is rounded out with a 22/36 double chainring and the robust Supra BH rims.

und vorgeshapte Downhills beschränken wollen, ist das Ironwood die ultimative
Lösung. Hinter jedem Berg ist eine noch bessere Abfahrt, selbst wenn man erst

Mit dem zweimaligen Gewinnen der Enduro Challenge am Gardasee ist bewiesen,

Wettkampfräder sind ausschließlich dazu gemacht, um zu gewinnen. Somit stellen sie völlig
andere Anforderungen an uns Entwickler als bei der Entwicklung von Backcountry Mountainbikes
à la Bionicon.
Steifigkeit, Gewicht, sowie Sitzposition sind die entscheidenden Kriterien, um in einem Marathon
oder einem Bergzeitfahren gut abzuschneiden. Nach 3-jähriger Studie und intensivem
Dialog mit unseren Teamfahrern, haben wir uns für ein kompromissloses
Hardtail entschieden. Dabei setzen wir auf Scandium als Rahmenmaterial, um auch bei einem
Sturz mit Rahmenbeschädigung das Rennen noch sicher beenden zu können. Die überwiegenden
Rennstrecken sind in ihrer Geländeeigenschaft auf Hardtails wie das Frequency HT
ausgerichtet. Auf Rennen wie Transalp, Transrockys usw. setzen unsere Fahrer auf das Golden
Willow 0 light, ebenfalls aus Scandium gefertigt.
Race bikes are made for winning alone and present our development team with a completely
different challenge than creating comfort orientated, full suspension bikes. Rigidity, weight and
riding position are the crucial factors in winning a marathon or mountain time trial. Following
three years of intensive study and dialogue with our team riders we choose an uncompromising
hardtail as the perfect race weapon. The ideal frame material for such a machine is Scandium
– even following a crash resulting in frame damage, the rider can safely finish the race. Most
off-road race courses are hardtail orientated. For races like the Transalp, TransRockies etc our
team riders will choose the Scandium framed Golden Willow SC.

With a 1.3 kg (2.3lb) hardtail frame made from Scandium alloy and a 9.5
kg (20.9 lb) complete bike weight the Frequency exceeds every rival. The
Frequency is available with two different specifications, the advantages
over a comparable composite frame lie in its durability and safety. An
aluminium frame can never hide the danger of sudden failure or similar

Unsere Mountainbikes sind gemacht für Berge, Stock und Stein; Sportgeräte
zum Austoben in der Natur. Wenn man jedoch in die Arbeit oder zu Freunden
fährt, um zusammen auszugehen, dann hat man dabei weniger die Absicht, eine
Trainingseinheit zu absolvieren. Man will sich einfach staufrei fortbewegen und
das mit einem Bike, das gut aussieht und die Funktionen bietet, die man wirklich
benötigt. Den Städter in seinem Habitat beobachtend, sind wir auf zwei Grundanforderungen
in Sachen Fortbewegung gestoßen, aus welchen wir je einen
Biketyp entwickelt haben: der Eine will so schnell wie möglich in die Arbeit, Uni
oder Schule, bei geringem Schweißtrieb und Körpereinsatz (Urban Road).
Der Andere möchte einen Packesel, der viel Gewicht verträgt – in Bayern auch
gerne mal ein Kasten Bier (Urban Cargo).
Aber nicht nur die Menschen in urbanen Gegenden weisen unterschiedliche
Fortbewegungsmuster auf, sondern auch die Städte selbst sind in ihrer Topographie
und Infrastruktur völlig verschieden und meist von Autos verstopft, was für
uns den Nährboden für viele neue Ideen in Sachen Metro-Cycling bereitet.
Our mountainbikes are designed for off-road terrain, performance machines
for enjoying nature. When commuting to work or visiting friends you won’t be
thinking about finishing a training run. More likely you just want to get from a
to b avoiding traffic jams and do so with a stylish, functional bike. We’ve been
observing city dwellers in their chosen habitat and have identified two breeds of
cyclist. One wants to get to work, college or school as quickly as possible with
the least amount of effort and sweat produced. The other needs a cargo mule to
transport heavy stuff (in Bavaria this means crates of beer).
We developed the Urban Road and Urban Cargo to meet these needs. But it’s not
just city people who are different from one another; each city itself has a unique
topography and infrastructure. The common enominator is the queue of cars
and it is this which feeds us with new ideas for metro cycling.
