Georgene Brock, Volleyball, Tennis, 1964-1998Brock coached women’s volleyball from 1967-80and including three Minnesota Athletic IntercollegiateAssociation for Women (MAIAW) statechampion volleyball teams, led two teams to nationalcompetition. She coached women's tennisfrom 1970-83 and also headed the MSC Women'sIntramural Department 1964-70. Recognized asone of the pioneers for women’s sports on a regionaland national level, Brock served as chairpersonand committee member in MAIAW, Region 6American Intercollegiate Association for Women(AIAW) and the Northern Sun Conference (NSC).She also served as MSU’s Director of Women'sAthletics 1965-1998. A member of both NorthernSun Conference and North Central Conference Hallof Fames, the Tempe, Ariz., native was inductedinto the MSU Hall of Fame in 1986.Dean Bowyer - Baseball, 1977- 2008Dean Bowyer built a a career record of 1064-538-7 inhis 36 years as a collegiate head coach - 32 years atMinnesota State (formerly Mankato State) and fouryears at Minot State. At the time of his retirementfrom MSU in 2008 his 1064 wins ranked fifth on the all-time NCAA Division II list.During Bowyer’s 32-year tenure as MSU’s coach, theMavericks captured a total of 22 league championships- three when MSU was in the Northern IntercollegiateConference (NIC) and an incredible 19 in theNorth Central. MSU made it to the NCAA post-seasontournament 21 times under Bowyer and three of thoseteams made it all the way to the NCAA Division II CollegeWorld Series (1979, 1980 and 1986).A total of 26 MSU players coached by Bowyer wereselected in the Major League draft and 46 Bowyerproducedplayers have signed professional contracts.Two former Mavericks who played for Bowyeradvanced to the major leagues. Pitcher Todd Revenig,who was drafted and signed with Oakland in 1990,debuted with the parent A’s in 1992 and reliever GaryMielke was drafted by Texas and had a stint with theRangers from 1987 through 1990.Nick Campa - Women’sGolf, 1988-presentCampa, a three-time DistrictCoach of the Year (1998, 2000and 2010) and three-timeNorth Central ConferenceCoach of the Year (1998, 2000and 2001), has led five MSUteams to North Central Conferencetitles - 1989, 1995,1996, 1998 and 2001. Campahas sent 12 teams to theNCAA Division II regional tournaments.A total of nine of histeams have advanced to theNCAA national championshiptournament and two of thoseteams have posted fifth-placefinishes (1998 and 2000). Includinga perfect fall season in2001 in which his team wonall six tournaments it entered,the Mavericks boast moreC.P. Blakeslee, Administratorand Coach, 1921-61Served as coach, administratorand professor inhealth and physical educationat MSU from 1921until 1961. Blakeslee, whohad a stint as director ofathletics from 1924-38,coached the school's firstteam - men's basketball in1921-22 and during his 43years at MSU he was responsiblefor expanding theathletic program from twosports to nine sports. Hecoached several sports duringhis time at MankatoState including men's basketball,golf, football, gymnastics,baseball and trackEarl "Bud" Myers - Cross Country,Track & Field, Football, 1948-79St. Joseph, Mich., native coached MSU teams for 31 years and captureda combined 25 Northern Intercollegiate (NIC) and North Central (NCC)Conference titles during that time. His cross country teams reachedthe national meet 23 consecutive years and, in addition to gaining second-placefinishes in 1960 and 1968, finished lower than tenth onlytwice during that span. He also coached the MSU football team fouryears (1949, 1950, 1951, 1952), during which they won three conferencetitles. Myers was president of the National Collegiate Track <strong>Coaches</strong>Association from 1969-72 and the meet referee for the NCAA DivisionII national track and field championships in 1977. Myers, afterwhich MSU's fieldhouse is named, is a member of the MSU and NICHalls of Fame.Rummy Macias - Wrestling& Men's Golf - 1950-1988Macias inaugurated theMSU wrestling program in1950 and coached for 38years. The Davenport, Iowanative led MSU tothree national titles (NAIAchampionships in 1958and 1959 and a NCAA CollegeDivision title in 1965),eight Northern IntercollegiateConference championships,and one NorthCentral Conference title.He had 93 of his wrestlersattain all-America status,19 were national individualchampions, 62 capturedNIC individual championshipsand 12 won NCCindividual titles. He alsoserved two stints as MSU'sgolf coach (four NCC teamtitles and one NIC title,two-time NCC Golf Coachof the Year) and was anassistant coach with theMSU football program.The 1948 University ofIowa graduate has beeninducted into seven Hallsof Fame: MSU, NCC, NIC,Bob Otto - Football, Athletic Director - 1953-83Jim Witham - Men's Basketball,1945-56Witham coached the MSUmen's basketball team from1945 to 1956 and built a recordof 166-70 during thatspan. The 1947 Mankatoteam went 17-4 and advancedto the finals of theNAIA tournament in KansasCity where they lost to Marshallin the national championshipgame. MSU alsomade a NAIA postseason appearancein 1947-48. Witham'steams won outrightconference titles in 1947,1948, 1949, 1950, 1953 andtied in 1952, 1954 and 1956.Witham, who also had coachingstints at Bemidji State andIowa State prior to coming toMSU, owned a career collegiatecoaching mark of 229-119. He also coached theMSU baseball team for threeseasons (1953, '54 and '56)and was an assistant with thefootball team. Witham was agraduate of Bemidji State,owned a master's degreefrom Minnesota and a doctoraldegree from Indiana.He was inducted into theMSU Hall of Fame in 1966.Otto served MSU for thirty years, coaching MSU grid teams from 1953until 1969. His teams built a 74-70-4 record during that time and capturedfive Northern Intercollegiate Conference titles during his tenure(1958, '59, '60, '61 and '68) and placed in the league's first division everyseason. He also served as the school's men's basketball coach for oneseason, leading the 1954-55 club to an 18-4 mark. Otto was namedMSU's men's AD in 1970 and served in that capacity until his retirementin 1983.The Fort Dodge, Iowa native was a member of the MSU, theNorthern Intercollegiate Conference and North Central Conference Hallsof Fame. MSU's Highland Arena was renamed in his honor (Otto Arena)in 1991. A noted athlete during his college career, Otto was a memberof the famous "Iron Men" football teams at the University of Iowa from1939-41. He graduated from Iowa in 1947 and also earned a master'sdegree from Iowa in 1948. Following graduation he served as AD andfootball coach at Buena Vista College from 1948-53.Mary Willerscheidt, Basketball,Cross Country, Track & Field, VolleyballMSUs first women's basketball coach,served at Maverick women’s basketballhelm from 1966-85. Willerscheidtconstructed a career win-lossmark of 246-158 (.609) in 19 seasonsat MSU. Her teams produced fourmembers of the now defunct Women'sProfessional League. Two of herplayers earned All-America honors inElsie Ohm (AIAW in 1980) and LisaWalters (NCAA in 1986 and 1987).She guided three teams to MinnesotaState championships (1972, 1973,and 1975). Willerscheidt as alsocoached MSU track, cross country,and volleyball teams during her tenurein Mankato. She also served aspresident of the Minnesota Associationof Intercollegiate Athletics forWomen (MAIAW) and chairpersonfor the Southwestern Board of Officialsfor the National Association ofGirl's and Women's Sports. A 1961 St.Catherine's graduate and the ownerof a Master's from MSU (1966), sheserved as an assistant professor ofPhysical Education at MSU. Willer-Lori Meyer – Softball, 1984-presentOne of the most respected coachesin all of NCAA Division II softball,Lori Meyer owns a career record of878-567-3 (.607) in 1,448 games. Aseven-time North Central ConferenceCoach of the Year, Meyer hasguided the Mavericks to threeNorth Central Conference titles(1987, 1989 and 2007), and led the‘87 Mavericks to a third-place finishat the NCAA Division II NationalTournament. Under Meyer, MSUhas made nine trips to the NCAApostseason and two trips to theNCAA Championships (1987,2011). Her 2011 team went 54-16and after capturing a regionalchampionship, posted a fifth-placefinish at the national tournament.1982 graduate of Upper Iowa University,where she lettered in volleyball,basketball and softball,Meyer is a member of the UIU Hallof Fame.Dan Runkle, Football, 1981-2001Runkle guided the Maverickfootball program for 21years (1981-2001) and is108 career wins accruedduring that time are themost by any MSU footballcoach. The Macomb, Ill.,native led MSU to its firstNCAA postseason appearancewhen the MavericksDon Brose - Hockey, 1969-00Brose built the hockey Mavericksfrom a fledgling clubprogram in the late1960s toone of the nation’s topsmall-college programs,Eventually, under Brose’sstewardship, the Maverickswould affiliate to NCAADivision I and in his finalseason, 1999-2000, would
