The Institute for Integrated Sensor Systems is devotedto basic, yet application-oriented research. Its objectiveis to investigate concepts and methodologies forsmart sensors, their design, interconnection, and application.Research is concentrated on systemic aspects.Overall aim is the development of sensors, controllersand signal processing structures as well as networkingsolutions optimized for system integration. Of particularinterest are robust, energy-optimized networkedsensor systems based on active measurement principlesand exhibiting a high dynamic range. Fields ofapplication for such sensor systems are broad, encompassingindustrial automation, automotive electronics, environmental engineering, and medical technology. The team is composed of international experts withspecialized know-how in the areas of micromechanicaland miniaturized thermal sensors; optimized systemarchitectures and signal processing structures for integratedsensors; and synchronization and security issuesin sensor networks. As the name of the institute implies, the “integrated“aspect may be related to circuit integration (miniaturizationof the sensor, or components necessary for signalprocessing); it may encompass functional aspects(mechanisms to enhance fault tolerance, or variouscombined sensor principles aimed at improvementSeite 14
