As Torrents in Summer
(Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)
As torrents in summer,
Half-dried in their channels,
Suddenly rise, tho’ the
Sky is still cloudless,
For rain has been falling
Far off at their fountains;
So hearts that are fainting
Grow full to o’erflowing,
And they that behold it
Marvel, and know not
That God at their fountains
Far off has been raining!
Wie Ströme im Sommer,
Die fast schon vertrocknen,
Plötzlich belebt, plötzlich belebt,
Ob der Himmel auch klar ist,
Von Regen, der niederfiel
Fern an den Quellen;
So wächst auch den Schwachen
Die Kraft ihrer Seele,
Und sie seh’n es staunend,
Es ist für sie ein Wunder,
Dass Gott in der Höhe mit himmlischem Tau
Begiesst ihre Quellen.
Weary Wind of the West
(Thomas Edward Brown)
Weary wind of the west,
Over the billowy sea –
Come to my heart, and rest!
Ah, rest with me!
Come from the distance dim,
Bearing the sun’s last sigh;
I hear thee sobbing for him
Thro’ all the sky.
So the wind came,
Purpling the middle sea,
Crisping the ripples of flame –
Came unto me;
Came with a rush to the shore,
Came with a bound to the hill,
Fell and died at my feet,
Then all was still.
Komm, sanfter Wind aus Westen,
über wogendes Meer,
füll mein Herz
und bleib bei mir.
Du kamst von weit so trüb,
bringst der Sonne letzten Seufzer;
ich hör dein Schluchzen
über’m ganzen Himmel.
Also kam der Wind,
das purpurne Meer kräuselt sich
wie flackerndes Feuer,
so kam er bis zu mir.
Er kam, zur Küste stürmend,
auf den Berg springend,
zerfiel sterbend zu meinen Füssen –
Stille überall.
