Sec. 8.7. 4 CONTENTS AND RESULTS GAINED 4.1 Mode of Study Full-time 4.2 Programme Requirements/Qualification Profile of the Graduate The Bachelor of Arts study programme in Heilpädagogik / Inclusion Studies has been designed to train experts to work in international surroundings in pedagogical and social services. The programme aims to enable students to understand new scientific findings and concepts as well as European sociopolitical targets regarding inclusion, a barrier-free environment and equal participation of disabled people and marginalized groups within a coalescing Europe. The acquired knowledge and skills will be applied professionally in pedagogical and social fields to improve education, training, promotion, support and empowerment of these groups in a European context. It is due to the cooperation of twelve universities from eight countries that the European perspective plays a vital role within a sequenced study programme which ensures mutual recognition of the Bachelor degree. An identical study programme is offered at each of the cooperating universities, thus providing an excellent basis for student and teaching staff mobility. Inclusion is the key concept of this programme: Inclusion means full and complete participation, that is the inclusion of all individuals in the heterogeneity of all social groups. Inclusion is not only targeted at a homogenised adjustment of a social community’s existing systems – in terms of the former integration model – but aims at the basic involvement of all individuals in social institutions and organisations. Therefore, and at the same time, inclusion incorporates a structural transformation of the community so that all individuals can participate and be actively involved according to their abilities. For this reason, the purpose of inclusion is to develop and refine social systems that reflect the “diversity of human life”, and not only to welcome diversity but to encourage it. The Bachelor programme enables graduates to act professionally in the fields of rehabilitation of people with disabilities, special needs and inclusive education, children and youth support, early intervention, support of the aged, social psychiatry and other relevant fields of rehabilitation and prepares them to occupy both executing, coordinating and leading positions on the basis of solid scientifically based knowledge and pedagogical competences. The study programme in Heilpädagogik / Inclusion Studies equips students with creativity, innovation and training potential who have at their disposal a broad and thorough knowledge of social sciences and, with special regard to inclusion, pedagogical competencies , which are in line with social-political demands and European policies. The European Bachelor of Inclusion Studies programme consists of 12 modules, each carrying 15 ECTS credits: Towards Inclusion in Europe, Approaches to Social Sciences, European Issues and Social Policies, Body and Soul – Salutogenesis and Pathogenesis, Diagnostics and Planning, Behaviour and Action, Interventions, Research and Project Work, Life Accompaniment and Support, Pedagogical Roots to Inclusion, Applied Research / European Project, and the final module including the Bachelor’s thesis and a colloquium.
