Liebe Leser,
es freut mich sehr, Ihnen im Namen der BACnet Interest
Group Europe die dritte Ausgabe des BACnet Journals vorstellen
zu dürfen. BACnet feierte seinen zehnten Geburtstag
und hat sich in dieser Zeit als umfassender, offener Kommunikationsstandard
im Bereich der Gebäudeautomation und
Sicherheitstechnik etabliert.
Was spricht für BACnet und warum ist BACnet für Investoren,
Planer und Bauherren so attraktiv? Die Antworten können
an dieser Stelle leider nur sehr verkürzt angerissen werden:
1. BACnet kann ohne Lizenzen und unabhängig von spezieller
Hardware oder Betriebssystemen eingesetzt werden.
2. Im Gegensatz zu Gebäudeautomation mit proprietärer
Kommunikation bietet BACnet als ISO-Standard ein wesentlich
höheres Maß an Investitionsschutz. Auch die
Kommunikation über Web-Services und damit die Integration
der „Felddaten“ in BackOffi ce-Anwendungen wird
von BACnet unterstützt.
3. BACnet setzt auf gängige Netzwerkoptionen, zum Beispiel
das Internet-Protokoll. Damit passen Gebäudeautomation
und Sicherheitstechnik in die IT-Infrastruktur. Sie verlieren
ihren kostspieligen Status als „Exoten“.
4. BACnet ist ein umfassender und mächtiger Standard. Kein
anderer Standard im praktischen Einsatz der Gebäudeautomation
defi niert so komplexe Transaktionen wie BACnet.
5. Positive Projekterfahrungen. Bitte schauen Sie sich hierzu
die BACnet Projekte an, die in dieser Ausgabe des BACnet
Europe Journals vorgestellt werden. BACnet ist heute Defacto-Standard
für öffentliche und in zunehmendem Maße
auch für private Bauvorhaben.
6. Weltweite Unterstützung durch zahlreiche Hersteller. Das
ermöglicht Vergleichbarkeit und Wettbewerb, was die
Dienstleistungsqualität verbessern kann.
7. Der BACnet Standard umfasst nicht nur die MSR-, sondern
auch weitere Anwendungen wie die Gefahrenmeldetechnik,
und ermöglicht damit eine sinnvolle und fl exible
Gewerkeintegration, die helfen kann, die Betriebskosten zu
senken.
Das vorliegende Journal zeigt Ihnen, BACnet ist quicklebendig.
Mit dem so genannten Plug-Fest im Mai 2005 demonstrierten
die namhaften MSR-Hersteller erneut ihre Verpfl ichtung,
dem Markt BACnet-Lösungen zur Verfügung zu stellen,
die problemlos zusammenarbeiten. Ebenfalls im Mai kamen
Vertreter verschiedener nationaler BACnet Interessengruppen
aus Europa zu einem Austausch und zur Koordination der
Aktivitäten unter dem Dach der BIG-EU zusammen. Das
Interesse an BACnet ist in Europa in diesem Jahr spürbar
gewachsen, und in zahlreichen Ländern beginnen Fachleute, in
nationalen BACnet-Interessengruppen zusammenzuarbeiten.
Ein weiterer Höhepunkt fand im September 2005 mit dem
BACnet Planerforum zum Thema „BACnet im Aufbruch –
Erfolgsfaktoren moderner Gebäudeautomation“ statt. Bitte

Dear Reader,
Much to my delight, I present you the third edition of the
BACnet Journal on behalf of the BACnet Interest Group Europe.
2005 sees BACnet celebrating its tenth birthday. During
this time it has established itself as a comprehensive, open
communication standard in the building automation, security
and life safety management arena.
But why is BACnet so attractive to investors, planners and
building owners alike? Very briefl y:
1. BACnet can be used independently of special hardware or
operating systems. It does not require special licences.
2. Unlike building automation solutions that use proprietary
communication protocols, BACnet is an ISO-standard
that offers a substantially higher degree of protection to
a customer’s investment. It also supports communication
through web-services and thus supports the integration of
‘fi eld data’ into Back Offi ce applications.
3. BACnet uses standard network options such as the Internet
Protocol. This enables building automation, security
and life safety management functions to fi t neatly into your
existing IT infrastructure.
4. BACnet is a comprehensive and powerful standard.
5. Positive project experiences. Just look at the BACnet
projects described in the Journal. Not only is BACnet the
de-facto-standard for public construction projects, it is increasingly
being used in the private sector.
6. It enjoys world-wide support from numerous manufacturers.
This allows comparison of offerings and competition
and with this, improved service quality.
7. The BACnet standard doesn’t just cover HVAC-control. It
also spans other building management applications such
as safety and security. This makes for a useful and fl exible
integration platform, one that can help to achieve lower
operating costs and drive performance improvement.
The journal in front of you shows how BACnet is alive! With
the so called plug-fest in May 2005, the big players in HVAC
control demonstrated their commitment to giving the market
BACnet solutions that readily co-operate right from the start.
Likewise, May saw representatives from various national
BACnet interest groups meet to exchange experiences and
co-ordinate their activities under the umbrella of the BIG-
EU. Interest in BACnet is growing throughout Europe. And
September 2005 saw another highlight with the BACnet
Planner Forum talking about ‘BACnet on the move - success
factors of modern building automation’. More information
on this event follows in the pages of this Journal.
