TRA REALTA’ E APPARENZA
Das Aussehen spielt eine entscheidende Rolle bei den ersten Eindrücken, die wir machen. Die
Gesellschaft hat uns dazu veranlasst zu glauben, dass der äußere Aspekt eines Menschen uns alles
über eine Person erzählen kann: ihre Intelligenz, ihre Persönlichkeit oder ihren moralischen
Charakter.
Gregor Samsa, ein bescheidener Handelsreisender, wurde nach dem Scheitern seines Vaters die
einzige Unterstützung der Familie. Eines Herbstmorgens wacht er in seinem Zimmer auf und
entdeckt, dass er eine Kakerlake geworden ist.
Trotz der Verwandlung in ein Insekt behält Gregor die menschlichen Fähigkeiten, reflektiert, leidet
und träumt wie ein normaler Mann, aber seine Familie versteht ihn nicht und verbannen ihn als
schreckliches und beschämendes Geheimnis in sein Zimmer. Wenn die Verwandlung in ein Insekt
vollständig wäre, wäre das Ergebnis weniger störend als die Tatsache, dass Kafka Gregor nur
äußerlich zu einem Insekt macht. Es ist, als hätte er seinen Protagonisten in ein Gefängnis gebracht,
in dem er weiter denkt, wie er es immer getan hat.
Paradoxerweise hätte dieses Drama nicht die Dimensionen angenommen, die es hat, wenn die
anderen verstanden hätten, dass sich in dieser Hülle Gregor befindet. Das ist gleichbedeutend mit
der Aussage, dass das Aussehen im täglichen Leben eines jeden von uns keine triviale Angelegenheit
ist. Vielleicht ist die Erzahlung sehr gut für die heutige Gesellschaft geeignet.
Eine Gesellschaft die auf dem basiert, was wir auf einem Bildschirm sehen, auf dem, was wir sein
müssen und nicht was wir wirklich sind.
This is also one of the main themes in The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.
The protagonist is Dorian Gray, a young man whose astonishing beauty fascinates a painter, Basil
Hallward, who decides to portray him. At the beginning Dorian Gray is still a very innocent young
man until Lord Wotton, with his extremely long speeches, negatively influences Dorian, so much
that he expresses a wish of eternal youth that the portrait absorbs all the signs of his age. When
Dorian sees the corrupted image of the portrait, decides to destroy it and begin a new life, but in
doing so he kills himself. Unfortunately, especially among very young people being accepted at any

cost is what really matters, even if this might mean silencing our consciousness and giving up our
true nature.
Nowadays, social networks are a sharing tool widely used by young people (and not) to share
photos, videos or stories. In the moment of sharing the post we decide which aspects or elements
of our life to show others. In this way we end up letting people know a mask, an imaginary barrier
that makes us feel safe.
In his works James Ensor focuses almost obsessively on the theme of the mask. However, it is never
single, it is always inserted within a multiplicity, at times even a multitude of characters. As we can
see in the “Christ's Entry into Brussels” the painter stages a great comedy with a caricatural tone, a
colorful procession with phony cheerfulness. The picture is therefore a denunciation of society
formed by men without personality and easily exploitable, incapable of manifesting their true
essence.
In 1905 Einstein enunciated in his work the two postulates of relativity, seemingly simple, but they
will change physics. The postulate of invariance of the speed of the postulate modifies the laws of
classical physics and shows that the time intervals are relative and indeed, for an observer moving
uniformly with velocity near to that of light, time runs slower than a stationary observer. The same
phenomenon can appear in very different ways depending on the observer.
In conclusion, appearance is what we want to see, it’s the simplest thing that jumps to our eyes and
it’s often also the most comfortable or easy thing for us to understand. But in the end, what we find
ourselves struggling with every day is reality, and no matter how many illusions we’ve had, she’ll
come out sooner or later.
