The arrival of COVID-19 made online teaching / learning very common worldwide and, sadly, the results are quite questionable, at least in language teaching / learning.The solution to the problem is only partly technological and partly pedagogical / psychological. The main focus here is blending the psychology of face-to-face teaching / learning and that of online teaching / learning.The teachers and teacher-trainers of the International Teacher Training & Development College have proved for well over three decades that by far the most efficient solution to the problem is the use of Humanistic Psychology and the Person-Centered Approach. It was discovered and summed up in ’The Six Necessary and Sufficient Criteria of Successful Therapy’ by Dr. Carl Rogers. The stumbling block in front of the wider use of this approach is that many university psychology coursebooks, and as a matter of course the teachers who use them, talk about ’The Three Criteria by Carl Rogers’ and it creates a situation that is very similar to the good, old ’The Irresistable Force Meets the Unmovable Object’ setting.This is what we try to understand make understandable for our Readers.
