Taiwan is an industrialized country that began late to set up national parks. There are now 9
national parks, which together make up almost 9% of the country's surface. Four national parks lie
on offshore islands. Of the other 5, at least 3 are very good for birdwatching, namely Kenting in the
extreme south, Yangmingshan near Taipei and Taroko, a gorge in the Taroko Mountains. In
addition, BirdLife International has registered 54 areas in Taiwan as globally relevant IBAs
(Important Bird Areas). In Taiwan one can observe a great variety of bird species, also because of
migratory birds. There are currently 27 species of birds recognized as endemic to Taiwan. This
multilingual (en, de, fr, es, ja, cn) bird guide introduces the entire bird life of Taiwan in color. As a
