Discription:
Liberally illustrated with black and white photographs, this is the third instalment in the Curious
England series. It’very much a book for dipping into. As with its predecessors, it introduces
the reader to some of the lesser-known folkloric and historical curiosities of rural England, its
towns, and smaller cities, but when some conurbation is touched upon, it is with respect to some
particular place within it, not the whole in its abstract and soulless enormity. So, here once again I
invite you to enter an enchanted realm of ghost stories tales of devilry, witchcraft, and revenants
highway robbery and murder dragons and giants local takes on national history characterful
carvings in wood and stone ancient monuments and their associated folklore and a curious tale or
two that defy conventional classification. Please be aware that this book is neither intended to be
an academic tract, nor a fully-comprehensive guide it has been written purely for the
reader’amusement, and in terms of its geographical compass is a somewhat motley affair.
And without further ado, let me wish you well in your travels, and your exploration of this eternally
curious England.
