After studying Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine at the Visayas State University (VSU) in the<br />
Philippines, Ana Marquiza Quilicot pursued a European Master in the Animal Breeding and Genetics<br />
(EMABG) program. In this interview she shares her favourite memories during her life-shaping-time<br />
at BOKU and reveals her passion for animal science, discussing her experiences, challenges, and<br />
insights into the world of animal science and impactful work in animal breeding.<br />

Is there a story behind your choice of study field?<br />
Growing up in the beautiful province of Bohol, Philippines,<br />
I was privileged to attend an agricultural school<br />
during my high school years. Being exposed to various<br />
farm animals as well as dogs and cats at a young age, I developed<br />
a deep interest in fields that could contribute to<br />
the animal industry. My father, an animal science lecturer,<br />
played a significant role in inspiring and motivating me to<br />
pursue my passion. Listening to his lectures and reading<br />
his notes after my elementary school classes, as well as<br />
participating in his classes’ field trips to different farms<br />
in the province, taught me invaluable lessons. All these<br />
experiences have shaped me into the person I am today<br />
and continue to inspire me to make a positive impact in<br />
the animal industry.<br />
Were you nervous about coming to Europe?<br />
BOKU was among my priority universities during the<br />
application process for EMABG. I felt both nervous and<br />
excited about coming here. I learned about Austria and<br />
Europe from documentaries, books, and my Humanities<br />
teacher, who introduced us to the culture, particularly<br />
