CVC October 2013

The Central Valley Corvette Club was
chartered in 1991 for the owners of the only
real AMERICAN sports car, the awesome
CORVETTE. It's a social organization with
activities that provide enjoyment for the true
Corvette lover.
MONTHLY MEETINGS ARE HELD
AT 6:30 P.M. ON THE 3 RD TUESDAY
OF EVERY MONTH AT YOSEMITE
FALLS CAFE, 4278 W. ASHLAN AVE,

OUR MEMBERS.
Club activities include monthly meetings,
car shows, weekend Club activities,
overnighters, picnics, road rallies, summer
cruises, holiday get-to-gathers and more!
Eligibility for membership in CVC is
defined in Article III, section 1 of the
bylaws in part as follows: "Membership in
Central Valley Corvettes shall be open to all
Corvette owners who are sponsored by a
member in good standing. Additionally, a
prospective member must, within a three
month period , attend two consecutive
meetings, participate in two club sanctioned
social activities, pay current membership
dues and initiation fees, and be approved by
two- thirds vote of membership present at
any general membership meeting by secret
ballot
Sponsors shall be responsible for advising
prospective member of results. All
members must submit proof of personal
insurance in accordance with California
State Law upon application for
membership, and all members must be a
member of the association providing club
liability insurance for CENTRAL VALLEY
CORVETTES.
A prospective member who does not have a
sponsor will be provided one by the
membership committee. Non-members may
not participate in more than three meetings
or two sanctioned activities.
CVC membership dues are $67.00 plus an
initiation fee of $35.00. Membership entitles
two members at the same address voting
privileges at meetings (provided they are in
good standing) and membership rights.

By the time you read this, we will have completed
the President’s Mystery Run. We are pleased that
60% of the entire club is involved in this adventure
and we will have details coming up in the
November newsletter.
With elections fast approaching this will be the final
month for the nomination process. Pam and I have
decided to seek a second term as “President” and
“Vice-President of Activities.” Fred Parks is also
committed to run for a second year as your
“Treasurer.”
However, we will have two openings as Terri Parks
will not seek a second year as “Secretary. Terri has
already served four years on the board and is
looking for a break before returning to the campaign
trail. Jeff Levine is also stepping down as our
“Vice-President of Public Relations.” Jeff also
served as Sergeant at Arms a year ago, so he is also
looking forward to some time off. That means we
will need at least two new faces or possibly more if
you choose to bounce the incumbents.
Skip Severance is expected to receive his 2014
Corvette any day and will no doubt have it by the
time you read this. Hopefully he will bring it to the
October 15 meeting for all to see. Gary Pflepsen
also has a brand new C7 on order as well.
On another front, you will be receiving your dues
renewal notice soon. It is $67 just like in previous
years and we request you please consider paying it
by the November meeting due date.
Officially we are still looking for a newsletter editor
for CVC. Patricia Garrahan is retiring after the
January edition. We have received some interest
from at least one person, but pretty soon someone is
going to have to step up and take on this important
responsibility.
Look forward to seeing everyone at our October
15 th general meeting at 6:30pm!

Central Valley Corvettes General Meeting Minutes
September 17, 2013
General meeting was called to order at 6:31 p.m. by
President Craig Hansen.
Minutes from the August General meeting were
read by Terri Parks. Motion was made by Joyce
Kroeker to accept the minutes as read and it was
seconded by Freddy Fam.
Membership Chairman Diane Hays handed out
CVC’s updated business cards. She welcomed our
guests Mary and Mike Lebda and Louise Ethington.
Treasurer Fred Parks gave the August Treasurer's
report. Due to Fred’s upcoming surgery, Craig
asked for a volunteer to read the October report.
Charlotte Renna volunteered.
In the absence of Vice President of Public Relations
Jeff Levine President Craig Hansen reported on the
birthdays and anniversaries of the club members.
Vice President of Activities Pam Hansen had
members report on their past runs. She reported the
future runs as Southwest Tour II potluck, Queen
Hauls for Clovis East, Laton, and Sanger schools,
Fresno Veterans’ Parade, Christmas party,
Christmas Light & Hayride, Shanghai dinner, and
Christmas at Hearst Castle/Cambria.
Sergeant of Arms Charlie Fosnaugh collected $1.00
in badge fines.
Our "In the News" reporter Jan Pflepsen reported
the news concerning our Corvette families. Jan also
had a special report from Gale Tavares on Rick’s
health. Gail thanked everyone for their cards. She
also mentioned Rick would really appreciate phone
calls as well.
Parliamentarian Linda Laningham handed out
nomination forms and asked for members to
complete and return to her.
Old Business:
Craig handed out the windshield decals.
Craig gave the time and meeting place for the
Mystery Run. He said Corvettes are not required
and that alternative transportation would be
provided.
New Business:
The club needs a new newsletter editor by January
and as yet no one has volunteered.
The next board meeting will be at the home of Craig
and Pam Hansen on September 19th at 7:00 p.m.
The next general meeting is October 15th at 6:30.
The motion to adjourn the meeting was made by
Leigh Ann Severance and seconded by Charlie
Fosnaugh.

Halloween party
A married couple was invited to a Halloween party. That night, as they were getting ready to go out, the wife
said she had developed a migraine headache and had to stay home. She told her husband to go to the party
without her. "Don't let me spoil a good time for you," she said. After further discussion, the husband put his
costume on and went to the party. The wife took some aspirin and went to bed.
After sleeping for a while, she woke feeling much better and decided to go to the party and surprise her
husband. As she was getting ready, she thought to herself, "I wonder what my husband really does when I'm not
around." She then got into a different costume, so her husband wouldn't recognize her, and went to the party.
Getting there, she stood off to the side and watched.
There was her husband dancing with one girl after another and getting very physical with them. She decided to
see just how far he would go. She went up to him and started dancing with him, got very close and whispered
that they should go outside. Going to one of the cars, they made love. Prior to the midnight unmasking, she left
and went home to wait for her husband to return so she could confront him.
He arrived home about 1:00 a.m. and climbed into bed. She sat up and asked "Well, how was the party?" He
replied, "It was no fun without you honey." She said, "I don't believe you. I bet you had lots of fun!" He replied,
"Really, Honey. When I got to the party, some of the guys and I got bored and we went downstairs and played
poker all night. But you know that guy I loaned my costume to had one hell of a great time."

Sunshine and Clouds. It is always fun to learn
what is going on with CVC members!!!!!
1. Here is the latest from our would traveler –
Charlotte Renna: She says she has returned from
a two month trip to OR. She and Don took a
one-month motor home trip to WY, MT, SD, ID
and the ORn coastline. They attended Don and
her late husband Joe’s 55 year class reunion.
They visited with her brother-in-law, Nick
DeLiddo and celebrated Nick’s 80 th birthday.
They also saw Jim and Lynn Agar; it seems
their 2014 Stingray is in route to them.
2. The Laninghams sent some interesting news:
They recently took a trip to Pismo and brought
along their new puppy, Oskie. Oskie did very
well and should be a good travel companion for
future trips. It is always amazing to me that we
all reach a very tender age that it is important
that our pets be able to travel with us!!
3. And from Debbie Garrison – She too shared
some interesting news regarding her family: The
very good news is that Keith had his heart
ablation on 09/04; it was successful and Keith’s
heart is in normal sinus rhythm which means he
can now go off some of his meds. His knee is
doing much better and he is now walking with a
cane. Vickie Garrison broke her wrist in July,
but it has healed well and she was able to
remove the cast the Friday before the Alaska
trip. The Garrison’s are all on the mend……
4. Our dear members, Peggy and Bob Cook are
also big travelers! It seems they have had the
best summer ever. They travelled in their hot
rod to OR, Canada, WA and ID. They spent
more days at their cabin that they have in the 23
years they have had it!Their kids manned the
business while Peggy and Bob were away and
did a frantastic job. No calls from the kids with
any problems…..They will be back in time for
the President’s Mystery Run.
5. Charlie and Kim Fosnaugh are very happy ,
beaming CVC members. They have recently
learned that after 3 years of marriage, their
daughter and son-in-law are going to have a
baby. It will be the first grand child for Kim and
Charlie. Kim says, “Let the shopping begin!!”
6. Patrick and Patricia Garrahan have also made
it home from Alaska safe and sound. The
Curtises’ say hello to all their old friends. While
on board, they visited their old CVC friends,
Bob and Louise Ethington. Luckily, they had
very little rain on the trip although high winds
did keep them from docking in Skagway which
was very disappointing.
7. Jan and Gary took a golf trip with Sasan
Cursi and Del Walker. Lots of fun, food, land
laughs, but the golf courses (2) were very
difficult and left us all exhausted and reminded
us that we really are just average golfers
8. There have been 28 units of blood donated in
Rick Tavares’ name. His red blood platlets are
still low and he has had no chemo since
February. He and Gail are mostly at the coast.
They have signed up for the Cambria run and
are hoping to make the next club meeting.

Kitchen Cupboard Crockpot Chili
1 pound ground beef (can still be frozen)
1 – 15 ounce can of refried beans
1 – 15 ounce can of chili with beans
1 – 15 ounce can of pinto beans
1 – 15 ounce can of petite cut tomatoes
1/3 cup dried onions
½ packet of taco seasoning
1 tablespoon garlic powder
Secret Ingredient Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce (this comes in a 7.5 ounce can)
Place ground beef in bottom of crock pot; add all 3 cans of beans and tomatoes,
along with the dried onions, taco seasoning and garlic powder.
(Now be careful with the peppers. I used one pepper and all of the sauce in the
can, and it was spicy but not too hot. )
Cook on high for 1 hour,
and then stir everything
together making sure the
beef is broken into small
pieces.
Cook on low for at least a
couple of hours, or until
you are ready to serve it.
(I cooked for 4 hours on
the low setting).
I put the remainder of the
peppers in a bowl beside
the serving dish for others
to add if they like it really
hot.
(If you don’t have the correct beans, use whatever beans you have in the kitchen
cupboard – black beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, etc. You can also put a small can
of corn in if you wish.)

It was a great show at Skypark this year on Saturday 9-7-2013. More planes and more cars!
Four from CVC showed up and also met two more corvettes there... Invited them to the next
meeting… Even saw a 288 MPH Rocket car…! Charlie

We had 16 members and 4 guests join us for dinner at the “King’s Diner” – an Elvis
themed diner in Sanger – on Saturday, September 14, 2013.
The restaurant is a tribute to the owner Vance’s favorite singer, Elvis. It’s
decorated in all things Elvis: from the mural of Graceland to a full-size Elvis in his
white jumpsuit-there’s Elvis memorabilia everywhere you look.
A jukebox, a karaoke machine and posters of 50’s singers and celebrities adorn the
walls to add to the flavor of the diner. The owner Vance even serenaded us with
50’s songs.
After the diner, some members took in the local farmers ’market while some
others found the yogurt shop where we all seemed to end up.
My thanks to the Severances, Fosnaughs, Garrahans, Nulls, Olsons, Danielsens,
Laninghams, my sis Marie and friends Janet, Debbie and Ray Moles for joining us
for a nice evening of good food and great fellowship.
