HELPFUL TIDBITS BUYERS RESOURCES AGENCY TERMS
Don’t Buy If You Can’t Stay Put
If a buyer cannot commit to remaining in the house for at least a few years, then buying is probably not a good idea. With the transaction
costs of buying and selling a home, the possibility of losing money is real, even in a rising market. When prices are falling, it can be an even
worse proposition.
Start By Shoring Up Your Credit
Since most buyers borrow money when they purchase a home, it is essential to must make sure credit history is as clean as possible. A few
months before the house hunting begins, get copies of all credit reports, make sure the facts are correct, and promptly attempt to repair
any problems that are discovered.
Aim For A Home You Can Really Afford
No one wants to be house-poor. It is important to get good advice related to what is an appropriate amount to spend on a primary
residence, given income and savings.
There are a variety of lenders who can offer competitive interest rate mortgages that require a smaller down payment.
Buy In A District With Good Schools
In most areas, this advice applies even if you don’t have school-age children. Reason: When it comes time to sell, strong school districts
are a top priority for many home buyers, thus helping to boost property values.
Choose Carefully Between Points And Rate
When selecting a mortgage, buyers have the option to pay upfront for an interest rate reduction. If you plan to stay in the house for a
considerable period of time, say three to five years (or more), it’s usually a better deal to buy the points. A lower interest rate will save
money over time.
Before House Hunting, Get Pre-Approved
Getting pre-approved will save the grief of looking at houses that are too expensive. This is not to be confused with pre-qualification, which
is based on a cursory review of finances, pre-approval from a lender is based on the borrower’s actual income, debt, and credit history.
Do Your Homework Before Bidding
An opening bid should be based on the sales trend of similar homes in the neighborhood. So before making an offer, consider recent sales
of comparable homes with the help of your broker.
