Cet ouvrage résulte des échanges et des débats qui se sont déroulés lors de la journée d'étude
francophone du 3 décembre 2009, intitulée Place et rôle de l'olympisme dans l'éducation en
Europe. Il semble que depuis quelque temps, le concept d‘éducation olympique redevienne un
facteur important de l‘acte pédagogique, sinon en France, du moins en Europe: c‘est sans doute
parce que l‘éducation appelle à la transmission de valeurs et que celles-ci sont questionnées dans
leur capacité à assurer les défis des temps à venir tout en assurant la pérennité des sociétés. Il
est donc intéressant de voir dans quelle mesure cette éducation est une valeur à prendre en
compte, à discuter ou à rejeter, et de quelle manière on peut éventuellement la mettre en oeuvre
ou la promouvoir. Dans tous les cas, il importe de considérer l‘olympisme dans toutes ses
dimensions, car c‘est un objet qui s‘impose à la jeunesse, aux éducateurs et aux chercheurs, mais
aussi aux politiques et à la société civile par sa réalité tant médiatique que culturelle.
