But size doesn’t matter: for each company it was
a giant achievement.
A key recent development in the Asia Pacific region has
been the launch of a 60:40 joint venture between
Tibbett & Britten and Kontena Nasional Berhad, the
leading Malaysian warehousing, distribution, container
haulage and freight forwarding specialist.
Based at Selangor, near Kuala Lumpur, Kontena Nasional operates more than 200,000 sq m
(2.2 million sq ft) of warehousing and 4,650 commercial vehicles and trailers. Major
customers include IBM, Matsushita, Nestlé, Perodua, Samsung, Siemens and Sony.
The new company, Tibbett & Britten Kontena Nasional Sdn Bhd (’TBKN’), builds on a
long-standing working relationship between the two partners, and will offer a full range of
third-party logistics services in Malaysia and Brunei.
John Harvey, Executive Chairman of Tibbett & Britten Group, explains: "The establishment
of TBKN further strengthens the Group’s presence in Asia, where Malaysia has an important
role to play as a regional manufacturing base. TBKN will support our existing international
retail and manufacturing customers and will also provide the base to service domestic
customers in our core business sectors."
Group accelerates to Queen’s Award
Tibbett & Britten Group has become
the first specialist logistics service
provider to be presented with a
Queen’s Award for International
Trade – the UK’s premier accolade
for international businesses.
The award recognises the Group’s
spectacular achievements in operations
beyond United Kingdom shores. As
recently as 1989, Tibbett & Britten was
active purely within the UK and Ireland.
Today around 60% of all revenues are
generated overseas – despite UK growth of
more than 15% compound per annum over
the same period.
On both sides of the Atlantic, Tibbett &
Britten has been progressing rapidly –
mainly through organic growth. In Europe,
for example, it is the principal distributor of
frozen food in Austria and Hungary, a
leading drinks and fresh produce logistics
provider in France, and number one for
clothing and personal care products
distribution in the UK and Ireland.
Meanwhile, Tibbett & Britten has
developed into the largest specialist
distribution business in Canada and one
of the biggest in the USA, employing
11,000 people in North America and
operating from coast to coast. In fact, the
Group now views Europe and North America
as its dual ’home’ markets, while
successfully pursuing sector-focused
opportunities in other parts of the world.
