Arctic Pilot Program – LNG
• The late 1970s and early1980’s
brought the prospect of Arctic
LNG ships with a number of
projects being studied.
• The Arctic Pilot Program led by
PetroCanada was one of the
leading projects with plans to build
a liquefaction plant at Bridport
Inlet on the south coast of Melville
Island in the Canadian Arctic
islands and to ship LNG in
icebreaking LNGCs through the
N.W. Passage to eastern Canada.
• Significant work was done on this
project before the lower energy
prices of the mid 1980s put the
project on the shelf.
