6. Superintendent’s Report:
Mr. Leunig announced that the budget passed overwhelmingly by a margin 69%. Mr. Leunig
proceeded to read an article from the Times Union, an Albany based paper, that highlighted the
fact that as much as the Governor pushed his tax cap, especially right before the school budget
vote, over 90% of the school districts passed their budget. Finally, Mr. Leunig reported on the
APPR. This is a new way of evaluating teachers and principals. This is due to go into effect next
year, however, there are still no guidelines or regulations attached to it. NYSED and Cornell
University are hosting a Labor/Management Conference on June 13 and 14 regarding the APPR
which Mr. Leunig signed up to attend along with Dr. Bannon and Mr. Kelly. At this time no
information has come down from SED regarding the conference except that NYSUT has
withdrawn from the conference due to the Governor’s inserting of himself into the APPR process.
