Principals Message
Parent Alliance
Honor Roll and Principal’s List
A Message from Our Principal
I hope you all enjoyed some time with
family and friends over the Thanksgiving break. The
children returned happy and renewed or maybe it was
just me.
On the Tuesday before we left for
Thanksgiving Break we celebrated our upper grade
students’ academic accomplishments and stellar
behavior with our “Big Spin” Assembly. If you’re not
familiar with our “Big Spin” Assembly, allow me to
enlighten you. First, all fifth and sixth grade students
who earned themselves a place on the honor roll or on
the principal’s list are announced and congratulated.
Honor Roll requires at least three A’s with the
remaining grades as B’s and, of course, no N’s. The
Principal’s List requires all A’s and, of course, no N’s.
Fourth graders are not included in the Honor Roll or
Principal’s list as it’s their first year of letter grades
and that in and of itself is a bit of an adjustment. They
will have ample opportunity in fifth and sixth. The
grand finale is the Big Spin Drawing where the names
of all fourth through sixth grade students who have not
received any pink or blue slips are drawn for each
grade level. When a student’s name is drawn, s/he is
invited to come up and spin the Big Spin Wheel They
have the opportunity to win a pizza party, an ice cream
party, a gift certificate to Baskin and Robbins or a
movie pass. It’s a raucous event shared by all.
I am excited to announce that our computer
lab is very close to opening. The furniture is in, the
cabling is in, and the computers are set up with the
added security of cable locks. We only need to
complete the “imaging” of our computers. We hope to
be up and running after winter break. The staff has
been working diligently on designing a scope and
sequence of technology skills as well as tech projects
for each grade level.
As a reminder we have a NONrestructured
Wednesday, December 17 th, the week
before break. Students will be dismissed at 2:05
instead of 12:05. We have a three-week winter break
with our last day of school being Friday, December
19 th . Students return on Tuesday, January 13 th . I
wish each and every one of you a wonderful, fun-filled
and restful holiday break with family and friends. See
you when we return.
Sincerely,
Deborah Dorney, Principal
