Biography<br />

<strong>Ahmadreza</strong> <strong>Foruzanmehr</strong> is a Teaching Fellow at <strong>the</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Built</strong> <strong>Environment</strong>, Heriot-Watt University. Before joining<br />

Heriot-Watt, he worked as a lecturer and research associate for Oxford Brookes University where he got his PhD from in<br />

2010. He also gained a Masters degree in architecture from Tehran University (2000), and an MSc in EESB (Energy Efficient<br />

and Sustainable Building) from Oxford Brookes University (2006). He has worked as an architect and researcher for 14<br />

years in Iran and <strong>the</strong> UK on a variety <strong>of</strong> projects in both state and private companies, and been awarded first prize in two<br />

architectural competitions in Iran.<br />

He, for <strong>the</strong> first time in Iran, compiled national 'Rules and Regulations for Architectural Competitions'. He co-authored design<br />

criteria for 'Public Libraries', 'Educational Buildings: Primary and Secondary <strong>School</strong>s' and 'Cinema Buildings' and edited<br />

'Urban and Architectural Design Criteria for <strong>the</strong> Disabled' in Iran. He was also involved in preparing and developing <strong>the</strong><br />

comprehensive and detailed plans for some cities in Iran.<br />

His PhD - completed in 2010 - was an interdisciplinary research that investigated traditional non-mechanical cooling systems<br />

in desert architecture in Iran, to evaluate <strong>the</strong> practicability <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se strategies for <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> comfortable indoor<br />

temperatures. In March 2008, <strong>the</strong> research was awarded <strong>the</strong> top ORSAS (Overseas Research Studentship Scheme) award<br />

for outstanding merit and research potential.<br />
