Biography
Ahmadreza Foruzanmehr is a Teaching Fellow at the School of the Built Environment, Heriot-Watt University. Before joining
Heriot-Watt, he worked as a lecturer and research associate for Oxford Brookes University where he got his PhD from in
2010. He also gained a Masters degree in architecture from Tehran University (2000), and an MSc in EESB (Energy Efficient
and Sustainable Building) from Oxford Brookes University (2006). He has worked as an architect and researcher for 14
years in Iran and the UK on a variety of projects in both state and private companies, and been awarded first prize in two
architectural competitions in Iran.
He, for the first time in Iran, compiled national 'Rules and Regulations for Architectural Competitions'. He co-authored design
criteria for 'Public Libraries', 'Educational Buildings: Primary and Secondary Schools' and 'Cinema Buildings' and edited
'Urban and Architectural Design Criteria for the Disabled' in Iran. He was also involved in preparing and developing the
comprehensive and detailed plans for some cities in Iran.
His PhD - completed in 2010 - was an interdisciplinary research that investigated traditional non-mechanical cooling systems
in desert architecture in Iran, to evaluate the practicability of these strategies for the provision of comfortable indoor
temperatures. In March 2008, the research was awarded the top ORSAS (Overseas Research Studentship Scheme) award
for outstanding merit and research potential.
