Public Affairs (PA)<br />

Aimed at a diverse range of constituencies<br />

including the media and the general public,<br />

PA’s activities foster greater mutual<br />

understanding between <strong>Asia</strong> and <strong>Europe</strong>.<br />

PA’s core areas of action are:<br />

Media activities<br />

Promoting <strong>Asia</strong>-<strong>Europe</strong> networks and co-operation among<br />

mass media, and communicating initiatives by ASEF and<br />

ASEM, through:<br />

• Programmes dedicated exclusively to media practitioners,<br />

aimed at developing the information flow and exchange of<br />

perspectives on key issues between policy-makers and<br />

journalists. This series of programmes includes:<br />

- the <strong>Asia</strong>-<strong>Europe</strong> Editors’ Roundtable<br />

- the <strong>Asia</strong>-<strong>Europe</strong> Journalists’ Seminar<br />

- the ASEF Journalists’ Colloquium<br />

Organised alongside major ASEM<br />

meetings, they also contribute to<br />

enhancing the visibility of the ASEM<br />

process.<br />

• Working with broadcasters,<br />

documentary filmmakers and<br />

producers to develop audiovisual<br />

content, for effective knowledge<br />

dissemination and outreach.<br />

• Communication strategies for ASEF<br />

projects and events including the<br />

development of various types of<br />

media co-operation and the selection<br />

of international journalists for ASEF<br />

projects.<br />

Management and dissemination<br />

of information<br />

Enhancing awareness about <strong>Asia</strong>-<strong>Europe</strong><br />

relations by facilitating access<br />

to information, through:<br />

• The <strong>Asia</strong> <strong>Europe</strong> Journal which is<br />

devoted to interdisciplinary research<br />

on <strong>Asia</strong> and <strong>Europe</strong> in the social<br />

sciences and humanities.<br />

• The ASEM InfoBoard, the official<br />

one-stop online platform for the<br />

ASEM process and other matters<br />

on <strong>Asia</strong>-<strong>Europe</strong> relations.<br />

• Public outreach through various<br />

events such as public lectures on<br />

pertinent topics on <strong>Asia</strong>-<strong>Europe</strong><br />

relations by eminent speakers.<br />

External communications<br />

Promoting ASEF and developing a<br />

coherent external image through:<br />

• Official events to present ASEF<br />

activities to external parties as well<br />

as co-ordination of official visits by<br />

dignitaries from the ASEM partners.<br />

• The ASEF corporate website<br />

(www.asef.org): a comprehensive<br />

portal on ASEF activities.<br />

• Corporate publications to disseminate<br />

information about ASEF activities:<br />

- ASEFNews, ASEF’s newsletter<br />

published every trimester.<br />

- ASEF <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong><br />

• Innovative and customised publicity<br />

collaterals to promote ASEF and<br />

its activities.<br />
