poland in film
Ari Folman, director of the acclaimed Waltz with Bashir – nominated for an Academy Award
for Best Foreign Language Film, winner of a Golden Globe and a César for Best Foreign Film,
as well as the Palme d’Or in Cannes – is working on a new film. What makes us very happy
and extremely proud is that Congress is being made with significant Polish participation.
Let us start with the fact that Ari Folman has Polish roots. As the director says in an interview
with George Krammer:
My parents emigrated from Poland after the war, a few years after the creation of Israel. I was
born in Haifa and grew up among Polish immigrants. I have a Polish passport. Moreover,
in this sense I am a Polish citizen, a country where my ancestors lived for ten generations.
I use it quite often. I do not speak Polish, but I understand almost everything. I seldom
visit Poland, but keep in touch with people there and it seems to me that I know quite
a lot about the country.
