Damned by Despair
by Tirso de Molina
in a new version by Frank McGuinness
‘Beautiful flashes of redemption and grace.’
evening standard
‘A lively and irreverent new version
by Frank McGuinness.’
Financial Times
‘Glisters with invigorating wit... for only £12
a pop thanks to the Travelex season, it’s a
damned interesting way to spend an evening.’
Daily Telegraph
saintly Paulo discovers he’s doomed to share the
fate of a complete stranger, enrico. Then he meets
enrico for himself and realises he’s evil incarnate.
if he’s damned, is Paulo too?
Damned by Despair, written in 1635 by the great
spanish dramatist Tirso de Molina, is brought to
vivid life in Frank McGuinness’ new version.
The subversive and at times riotous exploration
of faith and the transformative power of love
races across the italian landscape, relishing the
unpredictability of fate, an extraordinary array of
characters and their very real dilemmas.
