New for 2012 

We are introducing a grading system for our holidays, so what ever 

type of holiday you are looking for we are sure you will find 

something of interest in our new style brochure. Holidays are listed in 

date order and will come into one of the following three categories. 

Prestige Selection 

All Prestige holiday departures will be on board one of our ‘Extra Leg Room’ 

coaches. These departures will include most of the European & Scottish 

holidays, along with a small selection of UK departures. Hotels will be of 4*or 

3* standard. (Overnight hotels on some departures may differ, but this will be 

stated in the holiday details). ‘Home Pick Ups’ are included on all holidays of 

5 days or more, and on selected shorter departures. All excursions are 

included. Where possible especially on longer journeys, we will endeavour to 

provide ‘Hostess service’, but this cannot be guaranteed. 

Classic Selection 

These tours will mainly be operated on one of our Executive coaches 

although we may use one of our Extra Leg Room coaches if they are available, 

but this is not guaranteed. These departures will be mainly UK destinations and 

hotels will be mainly 3 star standard with some 4 star. ‘Home pick ups’ on all 

holidays of 5 days or more and on selected shorter departures are included.

Bargain Selection 

‘New for 2012’ we are offering a selection of ‘no frills’ Bargain Break Holidays, 

but please note these holidays will be staying in a lower standard of hotel 

2 star or 3 star or less but this is reflected in the price. ‘Home pick ups’ are 

not included on these tours, but can be booked as an added extra. 

If you are looking for a bargain break then these holidays may just be what 

your looking for. You will still travel on a Chandlers Coach and excursions will 

be included, however, it will be one of our standard touring coaches. 

If you are looking for a higher standard of holiday with more choice of destinations, then please choose 

a departure from either our Prestige or Classic Selection.

your holiday includes a ‘Door to Door’ service. 

Home to coach, and coach to home, without any 

worries about handling luggage, missing your tour 

coach or waiting out side. This service is offered in 

the areas listed on the back cover, if you are 

unsure about your location, please contact us and 

we will be happy to advise. 

(For a supplementary charge this excellent

This new tour is based on the industrial and mining heritage of South 

Yorkshire, visiting some of the places featured in the 1996 film ‘Brassed 

Off’, starring Pete Postlethwaite as the leader of a colliery brass band. 

This nostalgic package includes a talk on local mining life, a film evening 

in the hotel of ‘Where There’s Brass’ and a special performance by a 

local brass band, plus a visit to a mine to complete the experience of life 

in a Yorkshire mining community. There will also be a guided tour of the 

local area. 

This will be an interesting and nostalgic tour. 


Friday: Morning departure and travel to our hotel, where we have welcome 

tea/coffee & cakes. After dinner there will be an evening speaker at the hotel

The town of Fort William, between Ben Nevis and Loch Linnhe is our base for this Scottish 

Holiday, one of the highlights is a trip aboard the Jacobite Steam Train that takes you past a list of 

impressive extremes between Fort William & Mallaig. It starts near the highest mountain in Britain 

(Ben Nevis), then passes close by the deepest freshwater loch in Britain (Loch Morar) and finally 

arrives next to the deepest seawater loch in Europe – Loch Nevis. Before arrival in Mallaig, the 

train also crosses the world famous 21 arch Glenfinnan viaduct, which has been used in the Harry 

Potter movies and offers wonderful views down Loch Shiel. Another day trip will take us by ferry 

from Mallaig over the sea to Skye, where we have a tour before returning over Skye Bridge back 

to Fort William.

Agatha Christie’s Secret Retreat 

A new tour for 2012 we have a themed Agatha Christie break to Harrogate. Agatha Christie, the 

famous author of ‘Murder on the Orient Express’, went missing for 11 days in December 1926 and 

the search for her created the biggest man-hunt of the time. Her mother had recently died and it 

was said that the author was also suffering with marital problems. Agatha checked into the Old 

Swan Hydro, as it was known then, under the name of Mrs Theresa Neal, her husband’s mistress. 

Agatha enjoyed her stay joining in the dances, balls and Palm Court entertainment, until a musician 

recognised her and called the police. In 1977, Warmer Brothers made a feature film called ‘Agatha’, 

starring world famous actors Vanessa Redgrave and Dustin Hoffman, and this film was shot on 

location at the Old Swan Hotel, and in and around the historic Spa town of Harrogate. On this 

tour, we will of course be staying at The Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate with themed entertainment 

each evening and the chance to explore Harrogate and its beautiful Yorkshire Dales Scenery.

Wednesday: Today we travel along the shores of 

Lake Constance, for a morning visit to 

Friederichshafen, where you will have time to 

perhaps visit The Zepplin Museum or just enjoy 

the Lake Views. In the afternoon we visit the 

historic City of Lindau, nestling on an island at the 

southern end of Lake Constance, which is 

bordered by Germany, Austria & Switzerland. 

Thursday: Another great day out, we return to 

Chur for a short visit before boarding ‘The Arosa 

Express’ train for another spectacular journey into 

the Swiss Mountains. You may take a carriage ride 

around the mountain resort or take the cable car 

for amazing views of the Alpine scenery. 

Friday: We must depart after breakfast and leave 

Austria for the journey through Germany with 

lunch in the picturesque Black Forest, before

The Bernina Express 

Davos, Switzerland 

Join us for this exciting tour to Switzerland and the mountain resort of 

Davos. The highlight of our tour is a spectacular ride on the Bernina 

Express train across the Albula pass – gigantic rocks and glacial snows, & 

the Bernina Pass, Europe’s highest, open, alpine rail-crossing all make for a 

memorable holiday.

Saturday: Morning departure and travel to Dover for the short sea crossing

of firstly the Albula Pass and then The Bernina Pass to the pretty Italian town

Staying in the scenic Ahr Valley, with its mild 

climate and low rainfall it’s an ideal location. 

Romantics once called the Ahr Valley “The 

wildest daughter of the Rhine”, which is little 

wonder when you look at the scenery, with the 

romantic course of the river, wonderful rock 

formations, ruins, idyllic castles and picturesque 

terraced vineyards. 


Traveling out via Eurotunnel we go through parts 

of France & Belgium to Germany. Our excursions 

include a scenic drive to Cochem on the Moselle 

with afternoon at leisure in Altenahr. We have a full 

day in Bonn the former capital of Germany, where 

the Christmas Market is in full swing, along with a 

280 square metre skating rink. Our other day 

excursion takes us to Bernkastel-Kues with its ½ 

timbered houses, narrow street with their quaint 

romantic houses, making the perfect Christmas 

market setting.

border to Monschau in Germany before the 

afternoon and evening in Leige. 

Sunday: We go firstly to Valkenburg in Holland 

with its historic caves and Christmas market, then 

in the afternoon we visit Maastrict, where you can 

perhaps try the ice rink! We stay here until mid 

evening so you have the chance to enjoy a meal in 

one of the many restaurants.

Another popular tour with Chandlers Clients, 

Monschau is a picturesque town with a magical 

atmosphere at this time of year. The impressive 

Xmas market is held in the cobbled streets, close 

to our hotel. This year we have included home 

pick up as it’s an early start. 


Once you join your tour coach we travel to 

Folkestone for the Eurotunnel crossing to Calais 

and continue our journey through France and 

Belgium to Germany and onto our hotel. Buffet 

dinner on arrival. Saturday our excursion takes us 

to Germany’s most westerly City Aachen. 

The annual Xmas market is held in the Town 

Square with a warm and friendly atmosphere, 

chance to buy those special presents. Sunday we 

have a day at leisure in Monschau, with its 

Christmas market amongst the cobbled streets, 

and well preserved half timbered houses. Monday 

we return to Calais and the Eurotunnel crossing 

back to Folkestone.

Friday: After joining your Chandlers Coach we 

travel to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais. 

The journey continues to our overnight hotel in 

Saarlouis. Dinner on arrival 

Saturday: Following breakfast we continue our 

journey through France and Germany into Austria 

to our hotel and a welcome drink before dinner. 

Sunday: Our excursion today takes us across the 

border into Germany and the picturesque Lake 

Koningsee, normally frozen at this time of year, 

surrounded by snow capped mountains. 

‘Christmas Eve’: This morning we travel to the 

nearby City of Salzburg with a chance to explore 

this wonderful city and visit the Christmas Market. 

Returning to our hotel mid afternoon. 

‘Christmas Day’: What better way to celebrate 

Christmas than to be surrounded by snow capped 

mountains ! We have included a festive Sleigh Ride 

this morning before a Turkey Lunch. Afternoon at 

leisure, perhaps take a walk by the lakeside or relax 

in the sauna ! 

Boxing Day: We have a scenic drive today with 

visits to St. Wolfgang, Bad Ischl & Hallstat & this 

evening we have our farewell gala dinner. 


•There will also be an opportunity for a ride on 

one of the local cable cars. (Payable locally). 

• A guided torch walk of the village with 

Mulled Wine 

Thursday: We must depart after breakfast and 

travel across Germany with a lunch stop on route 

before continuing to our overnight stop. Dinner on
