Welcome to the 21st Annual SERAA
Grasstime Auction
What an exciting time to be in the cattle business. With record prices on every class of
cattle, US exports reaching all time highs, with high quality carcasses demanding very
strong premiums and cattle quality at its peak, it is an amazing time to be in the cattle
business.
They say longevity is the true test of success, and the SERAA Grasstime Auction has
certainly stood the test of time, coming into the Cullman Stockyard for the 21st year on
March 31st. We have seen many great breeders of Red Angus cattle in past years and I
believe that the 2012 offering is on track to be the most solid set of bulls, females, embryos
and semen as we have seen in many years.
I know many of you are past supporters of the Grasstime Auction and appreciate the
attributes that the Red Angus breed offers the beef industry. For all of you reading this that
are unfamiliar with Red Angus, let me point out the strengths of the breed. First, they make
excellent mother cows. In general, Red Angus are very docile, easy going cattle with lots of
milk and are highly fertile. Second, the calves gain rapidly with less feed input requirements
than continental breeds and grade with superior marbling characteristics. Third, Red Angus
are genetically polled and the cross bred calves will be predominately polled with possibly
some scurs if your cowherd is horned. Fourth, Red Angus will cross extremely well with any
breed of cattle and improve the quality of the calf crop in one mating. Fifth, there are
Certified Tagged programs offered through the Red Angus Association of America that will
add value through marketing programs that will compete with any color or any beef breed in
the United States. If you appreciate great beef cattle, you owe it to yourself to come to
Cullman, Alabama March 30th and 31st to take a look at the offering.
This year, I will be bringing a trailer to Cullman and will be glad to help deliver cattle
North on I-65 to Nashville then Northwest on I-24 to North I-57 (Mt Vernon, IL) then West
on I-64 to St Louis then North into Southeastern Iowa. If I can assist by meeting you along
this route, I would be more than interested in getting your purchases to you from the
Grasstime Auction. If you cannot attend the auction and would like an honest representation
of the cattle, feel free to give me a call. I will be at the Cullman Stockyard all day on Friday
March 30th and invite your questions regarding cattle and would treat your bids in
confidence.
I look forward to seeing you in Cullman, Alabama for
the most exciting Red Angus auction in the Southeast !
Sincerely,
Kyle Gilchrist
Miss Beef is out of our Foundation Donor Coley's Gloria. Gloria not only produces the
phenotype that we are looking for but she is highly fertile. Her calf, Miss Beef, is a
moderate framed, high volume female that has the structural integrity needed by a brood
cow. Miss Beef's sire is the well known Badlands Mr. Beef 805. We feel this heifer will
grow into a cow that has “the” look and production factor that you will be proud to show off.
What an exciting package to offer. Coley's Gloria is our foundation Donor Dam that we
chose to start our ET program around. She is an outcross female that has proven time and
time again she can get the job done. She produces functional, capacious calf's that grow
well while maintaining that look that always draws attention. While we do not focus on
show cattle, she had produced three Georgia Grand Champion Heifers before we
purchased her. You can view one of her daughters in our pens; Lake Creek Miss Beef.
The mating of Gloria to the now legendary Red Fine Line Mulberry 26P makes this offering
even greater. Mulberry needs no introduction to the cattle industry. The accomplishments
he has achieved makes him arguably one of the best bulls ever. This is a great way to
increase the genetic value of your herd. Don't let this opportunity get away!
A complete package! Diva has all the pieces that make a great cow. Packed with a balanced
set of EPD's and a pedigree of some of the breed's top genetics, she is an attention grabber.
If you are still not convinced by reading her data, give her a look. Impressive in her
conformation, she is a structurally sound heifer that maintains both volume and power. As
stated earlier, the best way to describe her is complete. If you are in the market to add a
heifer that has all the right pieces, come give Lake Creek Farm Diva a look.
This donor female needs no introduction. She has produced over 100 embryos and three
natural calves and is only 6 years old. This Rambo 502 daughter has produced sale toppers
in Fort Worth and the Stocking Stuffer Sale in North Carolina. We showed her offspring in Fort
as being the number one bull in the breed for marbling. Her grand dam was the highest
selling bred heifer in the ‘08 Grasstime Sale. She has a very solid EPD set across the
The dam of this heifer is out of none other than the record selling Abigrace P7905.
Selling for $30,000 from R.A. Brown Ranch. Her mother’s full sister, C-Brown + KM
Abigrace T715 sold for $20,000 last fall. The Abigrace cow family synonymous with
females that are super maternal, beautiful fronted, extremely deep and perfect uddered.
This heifer’s dam is no exception. I haven’t even mentioned her sire -- Messmer Packer
S008. He is the sire to many of the breeds top valued sons and daughters in the last
year. This heifer has 8 traits in the top 15% of the breed. She will definitely make a front
pasture addition if not earning a spot in your Donor Pen. She sells open ready to breed
flushed twice last year and gave us a total of 76 freezeable eggs. This heifer
comes from a flush with Destination. He shares the record for the highest
With several Solution daughters now in production they are proving to be top young cows
as they are moderate framed, milky and fertile. The dam has been as consistent as any
cow we have, always bringing in a big stout calf. She also produced our 2008 KY Beef
Expo Champion female and top seller. 503X will make a great replacement in anyone’s
herd. PE 6/16-8/1/11 to Red Brylor Psq’s Legacy. Legacy is a Pasquole son from a
The result of a future flush purchased from Pieper Red Angus that produced three full
sisters for us (we rarely get those odds, so we are sharing one). The donor posted a 108
MPPA at Pieper’s and she is the dam to herdsire PIE Deep Creek. Get R Done is the high
performance, carcass sire that passes tremendous eye appeal, length, and a great
disposition to his progeny. If you are looking for a top notch show heifer that will turn into
an even more powerful cow look no further. 407Y offers loads of capacity, a big square
hip, and a long extended front third.
A really nice LCB Hoss heifer out of a Glacier Chateau cow. This heifer is very feminine
up front with good growth. She has a wonderful pedigree with a lot of Who’s Who in her
background. Her dam will sell in this sale as Lot 23. She also has great EPDs and
should make a great cow for anyones herd.

This heifer is very hard to part with. She is the first daugher of LSF JBOB Expectation
6034S that I have rasied and her dam is one of my favorite cows – a deep red, deep
bodied, moderate, excellent uddered cow with a 104.7 MPPA. Ryan Ludvingson made
this statement to me: “The Expectation daughters are really fabulous.” If you have been
paying attention to the Ludvingson sales, you will know how excited folks have been
about his progeny. If you don’t know and have any questions about him, Ryan said to give
him a call and he would be happy to tell you about him. I am not absolutely positive, but I
think this is one of, if not the first, Expectation female to sell in the southeast. She is open
and ready to breed!

This thick, wide based heifer is the kind everybody likes. Moderate size, easy
keeping and just happens to be an ET daughter of the Rachel 349L cow that has
made a major impact on our program. When you look not only at her but also at her
pedigree she is stacked with several foundation bloodlines of the breed. These
genetics raised the bar for the Red Angus breed. As the foundation females are
aging out of the herd programs this young girl is ready to go to work. Take
advantage of the many sires you could choose from to breed with this female.
Cherokee has been a farm favorite from the start. It should be no surprise given the fact
that his Dam was the 2005 GA JR Grand Champion Red Angus Heifer. He is a long
bodied bull that is correct in his lines. He phenotypically correct yet he has enough
volume and power to make an outstanding herd bull. When you study his EPD's you will
find that he should produce calf's that can grow while maintaining enough maternal traits
to make replacements. Study his numbers then come give him a look. He won’t
He is out of a very nice, stout and moderate framed daughter of the great BFCK
Cherokee Canyon 4912 and sired by non other than Mulberry 26P. His pedigree alone
stands out, but if that is not enough note this. Low birth weight of 74 lb. but his 88 YW
EPD, this comes with a very efficient ME EPD. He is a nice red, easy fleshing and stout
made bull, that is efficient and has lots of growth.
