WELCOME LETTER<br />

Dear Sponsor,<br />

Disturbed metabolism of homocysteine and of related compounds has been attracting the<br />

attention of scientific and clinical community for more than four decades. The growing interest in<br />

homocysteine- reflected also in the ever increasing number of scientific publications- led <strong>to</strong><br />

establishing the International Conferences on Homocysteine Metabolism. The first Conference<br />

<strong>to</strong>ok place in Ireland in 1997 and since then it has been organized in different European cities<br />

every other year.<br />

These Conferences bring <strong>to</strong>gether the world leaders in various areas relating <strong>to</strong><br />

homocysteine metabolism, namely basic scientists, clinical labora<strong>to</strong>ry specialists, clinicians and<br />

epidemiologists on one side and industrial partners on the other side. Consequently these<br />

Conferences have become a forum where science, clinical medicine and industry meet in order <strong>to</strong><br />

understand, diagnose, prevent and treat human diseases resulting from disturbed homocysteine<br />

metabolism.<br />

PRAGUE, THE CZECH REPUBLIC<br />

For more than thousand years, Prague has played an important role in the his<strong>to</strong>ry of the Czech<br />

nation and Europe on the whole. Already during the Middle Ages, the Czech capital was known as<br />

by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, it ranked as the leading university in the Czech Republic and<br />

THE CONFERENCE VENUE<br />

Clarion Congress Hotel Prague opened in March 2008 as an international four-star hotel with<br />

modern congress centre. The venue is located in Prague 9 - directly on the metro B<br />

“Vysočanská”, close <strong>to</strong> multifunction Sazka Arena as well as aquapark Lagoon in Letňany. Easily<br />

accessible from all major points – the International Airport Ruzyně can be reached within 30-50<br />

minutes by car, the his<strong>to</strong>rical city centre only 15 minutes by metro.<br />

The hotel design is inspired by the unique location, mirroring crossing patterns and paths that can<br />

be found throughout the whole hotel interior. We see them everywhere around: on the floor<br />

where tiles are crossing, on the furniture, even on <strong>to</strong>wels and sheets. Neither the conference<br />

facilities are an exception – based on crossing orbits. The area of astronomy and astrology also<br />

named the halls and meeting rooms.<br />

The hotel offers accommodation in 560 rooms including 25 luxurious suites that feature bathroom<br />

with <strong>to</strong>ilet, minibar, personal in-room safes, SAT TV, telephone, iron, hairdryer, high speed<br />

(700 seats) presents main hotel restaurant with Czech as well as international cuisine. Restaurant<br />

GOURMET will provide you with variety of culinary specialities a la France. Adjoining Citadela<br />

restaurant is unique especially with its atmosphere of medieval tavern.<br />
