Again 10,000 visitors at <strong>Design</strong>ers’ <strong>Open</strong> in <strong>Leipzig</strong><br />

<strong>Design</strong>ers’ <strong>Open</strong> Jury Award Goes to <strong>Design</strong>ers from <strong>Leipzig</strong>, Halle, and Berlin<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Design</strong> <strong>Leipzig</strong> that took place from Friday, <strong>October</strong> 29 until today, Sunday, <strong>October</strong> 31 in<br />

<strong>Leipzig</strong>, closes its gates tonight. A little more than 10,000 visitors interested in design, among them<br />

professional visitors, students, many young families, and seniors walked through the two pavilions at Hôtel<br />

de Pologne and Kretschmanns Hof during these three days. <strong>The</strong>y showed interest in recent works by 120<br />

international and national exhibitors of fashion, interior, communication, and industrial design.<br />

<strong>The</strong> wish of the two <strong>Design</strong>ers’ <strong>Open</strong> founders Jan Hartmann and Andreas Neubert has become a reality<br />

again: “We had a goal of reaching 10,000 visitors this year and we are delighted that we succeeded the<br />

second year in a row.” This is also an acknowledgement of our work <strong>for</strong> the past months and it shows that<br />

there is a consistent interest in design in East Germany.<br />

During the opening ceremony on Thursday Night, MDR (Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk – Central German<br />

Broadcasting) awarded Jörg Bachmann of University of Applied Arts Schneeberg with the Café Trend<br />

<strong>Design</strong> Prize 2010. Bachmann received the prize <strong>for</strong> his swinging waste bin, a student project produced<br />

within the coursework of Product and Woodwork <strong>Design</strong>. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Design</strong>ers’ <strong>Open</strong> 2010 Jury members Werner<br />

Aisslinger of Studio Aisslinger, Berlin, Tillmann Prüfer, Style editor ar ZEITmagazin, Berlin, and Volker<br />

Hohmann, executive at ikarus <strong>Design</strong> Handel GmbH, Frankfurt am Main, presented this year’s DO/Awards<br />

on Friday Night, <strong>October</strong> 29. <strong>The</strong> winners are: Stefan Hölldobler and Patrick Gülzow of designbüro diefabrik<br />

<strong>Leipzig</strong> <strong>for</strong> their TomBox, Yi-Cong Lu from Halle <strong>for</strong> his Wohnwerkzeuge (living tools), and Atelier hurra with<br />

Mandy Blaurock and Susan Kreher from Berlin <strong>for</strong> their poetic film „Ich-Apparat“.<br />

<strong>Design</strong>ers’ <strong>Open</strong> is the three-day <strong>Festival</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Design</strong> <strong>Leipzig</strong>. More than 120 national and international<br />

designers show their latest works of interior, fashion, industrial, and communication design. In addition to the<br />

fair, there is a broad supporting program with lectures, design special exhibitions throughout the urban area<br />
