Teaching about the EU can be a challenge
as it is seen by students as remote from
every day life, and politically controversial
so the Hansard Society and the Foreign
and Commonwealth Office (FCO) have
teamed up to help. EU Explained focuses
on how the EU operates in practice and the
influence it has on our lives and is full of
lesson plans and resources designed to help
you make this happen.
UK teachers order your copy of this
electronic resource at:
citizenship@hansard.lse.ac.uk
and include your name, position and school
address. The resource will be downloadable
and linked from ESP home page shortly.
Forthcoming News
Journey through Europe. This resource is being
updated for the autumn term. Information will be
sent to schools shortly. Check the ESP website for
most up to date information.
ESP Communication Platform
This can be accessed from the homepage of the
European Studies website. Increasingly, schools are
collaborating with partners on their core activities
work from their conference planning agreements
through the Platform.
ELOS
elos school
education stretching borders
This educational concept, which seeks to promote
the European and international dimension in
education continues with the current objective
being to link Elos standards and student
competences to national curricula. 33 ESP schools
have already received an Elos school plaque in
recognition of their work in embedding the Elos
concept in their schools. The Elos Management
Team had a very successful meeting in Armagh in
June 2011.
for Business Studies students, which can be used by all schools teaching about
Europe.
ESP, in partnership with CCEA have completed an online European citizenship
resource, ‘EU4U?’.
The European Parliament in the UK has produced an interactive resource ‘Duty
Calls’ where students play the role of an MEP and are given one week to save
Europe from a pandemic.
Education for Democratic Citizenship & Human Rights
Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights (EDC/HRE) is
a set of practices and activities for equipping young people and adults
to play an active part in democratic life and exercise their rights and
responsibilities in society.
A series of six manuals has been developed
to help teachers and school directors to
introduce citizenship and human rights in
schools at all levels of schooling in a fun
and interactive way (include image of books
