european stage
The current business environment continues to be extremely
challenging and difficult. Despite these challenges and recent changes
within the company, we are continuing to develop the business. Since
2008 we have witnessed the retirement of Gerald and Paddy Buckley,
who had given a lifetime commitment to the development of the
business. Tom Ruddy has also recently retired and we wish them all a
continued and happy retirement.
In recent months, we have welcomed Fearghal Downey into the
business as our Chief Operating Officer and we wish him well in his
new role.
Our business in Ireland continues to be the back bone of our success
and we are very fortunate to have such a dedicated and committed
workforce. EPS has always been proud of its service to its customers.
This level of service is very important to us and we appreciate the
loyalty and support over the years.
Since 2008, we have become very active in the UK market both
in the water utility sector and through our acquisition of Conder
Environmental Solutions. Combined, these new growth areas are
providing an important platform for the future growth and sustainability
of the business. Significant progress continues to be made in a number
of key areas including R & D, our Environmental, H&S and Quality
Management Systems, as well as our energy and carbon reducing
initiatives.
In this, our first EPS Group newsletter, you will get a sense of what
progress we are making together across the Group and we hope that
you will continue to play a part in this progress with us .
as a company EPS is well aware of
its duty of care and has demonstrated
already its commitment to Health and
Safety through receiving the OHSaS
18001, CIF Safe-T Cert and achilles
accreditations. The company needs to
maintain its excellent Health and Safety
record and improve on the current
standards the company has set for
itself. EPS uses the philosophy of ‘top
down’ and ‘bottom up’ approach for our
fully integrated management systems
in Health and Safety, Quality and the
Environment.
The EPS Health and Safety Department
work closely with staff in continuing
to improve our safety management
system and our safety culture. This is
done largely through the internal safety
committees which are now functioning
in Mallow, Ballyhaunis and Peterlee on
behalf of all Regional Offices.
EPS’ commitment to Health and Safety
is summarised as follows;
• Health and Safety Training
• Health and Safety awards
• Communication of new and Revised
legislation to all Staff
• Health and Safety newsletter, Text
Messaging Service and Intranet
Targets for 2011 in Health and Safety
are:
• Reducing the number of accidents by
increasing awareness
• Improving the number of near miss
reports with the incentive of a donation
to a charity if the target is reached
• Increased number of Toolbox Talks
across all disciplines
• Continuing to communicate the
importance of commitment and
responsibility regarding the Health
and Safety of all EPS employees
In 2010 the EPS Group set challenging
targets for accident reduction, resulting
in:
• a 75% decrease in lost time accidents
• a 27% decrease in first-aid injuries or
