Panel Descriptions
Session 1 Panels (cont'd) – Friday, 27 February, 14:45 – 16:15
Healthcare Delivery – How to Achieve the Biggest Impact?
Room: G302 (South Campus)
A 1994 World Bank study found that 88 cents of every dollar of public expenditure on medication is lost to
inefficiencies with only 12 percent reaching the patient. The situation has unfortunately not improved in the
fifteen years since this study. This panel will explore how we can improve the efficiency of healthcare delivery.
Representatives from various backgrounds and geographies will take on this challenging topic. They will discuss
scalability of projects and drug affordability for the poor. Furthermore, they will touch upon the role publicpartnerships
play and the challenges they present, the need for better management in the healthcare delivery
system, and how MBAs could contribute.
Real Business Careers with Social Impact - Stories from the Other Side
Room: G201 (South Campus)
MBAs often find it difficult to envisage the path from a business career to one in social impact. The area of scope
is so wide and varied (including social entrepreneurship, microcredit, social investment, and CSR) that it requires
a concerted effort to find the right role. This panel will seek to explore the opportunities for MBAs in the social
impact sector and how to find these career options. The panel will explore how this decision is made and what key
considerations should be made before embarking on a socially impactful career.
