packaging materials in food.

food packaging and considerations for safety assessment.
9:30 a.m. Dr. Andrew Maier, Director, Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment, will discuss
application of the Threshold of Toxicological Concern to risk assessment of food packaging
materials.

10:15 a.m. Dr. Daniel Krewski, Professor, Director of the R. Samuel McLaughlin Center for
Population Health Risk Assessment, University of Ottawa, will discuss the Tox21 High
Throughput Screening Initiative.
11:00 a.m. Dr. Maia Jack, Senior Manager, Science Policy – Chemical Safety, Grocery
Manufacturers Association, will provide an update on the Pew Food Additives Project and
implications for the food packaging supply chain.
11:30 a.m. Dr. Joseph P. Rinkevich, Principal Consultant, Science Strategies LLC, will explore
implications of domestic and international regulation of chemicals in consumer products for
approaches to product safety assessment.

Recyclers, will present considerations for design of plastics packaging with postconsumer
applications.
2:15 p.m. Dr. Mark Lafranconi, Central Product Safety, Procter & Gamble, will discuss safety
assessment at Procter & Gamble – current approaches and practices – and provide an update
on the proceedings and outcomes of a recent public workshop at CalEPA’s Department of
Toxic Substances Control where industry practices for product improvement were presented as
a viable approach to alternatives assessment.
2:45 p.m. Tod F. Eberle, Vice President, Quality Systems, Engineering Standards, and Blow
Molding Process Technologies, Amcor Rigid Plastics North America, will provide an
update on the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), with a focus on evolving
requirements for food packaging manufacturers in GFSI-recognized certification schemes.
