will provide an overview of current thinking on risk assessment of chemical contaminants from<br />

packaging materials in food.<br />

8:45 a.m. Dr. Bernadene Magnuson, Professor, University of Toronto, will discuss nanomaterials in<br />

food packaging and considerations for safety assessment.<br />

9:30 a.m. Dr. Andrew Maier, Director, Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment, will discuss<br />

application of the Threshold of Toxicological Concern to risk assessment of food packaging<br />

materials.<br />

10:15 a.m. Dr. Daniel Krewski, Professor, Director of the R. Samuel McLaughlin Center for<br />

Population Health Risk Assessment, University of Ottawa, will discuss the Tox21 High<br />

Throughput Screening Initiative.<br />

11:00 a.m. Dr. Maia Jack, Senior Manager, Science Policy – Chemical Safety, Grocery<br />

Manufacturers Association, will provide an update on the Pew Food Additives Project and<br />

implications for the food packaging supply chain.<br />

11:30 a.m. Dr. Joseph P. Rinkevich, Principal Consultant, Science Strategies LLC, will explore<br />

implications of domestic and international regulation of chemicals in consumer products for<br />

approaches to product safety assessment.<br />

2:15 p.m. Dr. Mark Lafranconi, Central Product Safety, Procter & Gamble, will discuss safety<br />

assessment at Procter & Gamble – current approaches and practices – and provide an update<br />

on the proceedings and out<strong>com</strong>es of a recent public workshop at CalEPA’s Department of<br />

Toxic Substances Control where industry practices for product improvement were presented as<br />

a viable approach to alternatives assessment.<br />

2:45 p.m. Tod F. Eberle, Vice President, Quality Systems, Engineering Standards, and Blow<br />

Molding Process Technologies, Amcor Rigid Plastics North America, will provide an<br />

update on the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), with a focus on evolving<br />

requirements for food packaging manufacturers in GFSI-recognized certification schemes.<br />
