This location is about new possibilities, new levels of support, new, more exciting learning experiences and a new energy you can sense in the bright, open spaces. Throughout its history, MSPP has fostered service, innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. With this move, the school has taken a qualitative leap beyond old boundaries and expectations. Moments can transform individuals. Whether it’s a marriage, the birth of a child, a career-changing professional degree or a first car, milestones have an ability to change our sense of self and to redefine what we’re all about. The same goes for institutions. MSPP is something very different today than it was, even a few months ago. Students continue to learn and mature through rigorous academics and challenging on-site training; and the community remains as supportive and stimulating to their personal and professional lives, but this transformational move has enriched it all. This new entity both creates and supports a higher standard in education. it’s thrilling. environment does matter. The beauty of this new facility matches the dignity of the work that our students, faculty, staff, trustees and graduates do every day. You can feel it when you walk in the front door. And you can sense the culture, our commitment to service, to community and to making a difference. The spaces here symbolize what we’re all about and they facilitate our ability to advance our work. it’s a true affirmation of the value of learning environments that support students, of the opportunity to bring psychological theory and practice to on the Right Track “I love my job, especially right now. The school is really on the right track,” said Patrick Capobianco, MSPP Vice President of Finance and Operations, in a November 2003 <strong>Rapport</strong> profile. Nine years later, Pat’s affection for the work and the school have grown, as have the student body, degree programs and, of course, the need for space. And, on October 19, as MSPP gathered friends and founders to cut the ribbon on a new Newton home, it chose to honor him for doing the job that he loves so well. “No one person is more responsible for making this new building possible than Pat,” said President Nick Covino, as he handed Pat a special glass encased award in appreciation. “He even worked out the final details while in treatment at Dana Farber Cancer Institute.” No stranger to this kind of dedication, Pat, a Medford, MA native, was married and a dad by 19 and finished his Northeastern degree at night, while holding a senior finance job at Tufts University. Later he ran the finances at Harvard Community Health Plan and Mass. Eye and Ear Infirmary before trying his luck as a restaurant owner and an entrepreneur. But higher education was, and is, his passion, and he was thrilled when, in 1992 he answered a Globe help-wanted ad and landed at MSPP. Since then he has had his hand in every aspect of MSPP’s business development and success. “Without his wisdom, we would not be where we are today,” says Nick. “I have been very lucky,” says Pat, reflecting on his staff and colleagues who helped him, his successful battle with cancer, his family (four kids and eight grandchildren) and his continually challenging career. “What can I say? I love my job more than ever. And now, with our own building, I know the school is set for the future!” environment does matter. The faculty and staff who were involved in the creation of this critical new arena for expressing our mission gave much of their time and talent to its completion. They added this enormous job to the jobs they already had. They were kind, thoughtful and generous with each other over the 18-month gestation. They took risks. The architects and construction crew worked to create something new and important. And it worked. The place has more gravitas, more energy and more impact than anyone dreamed possible. Under one roof, you can sense the passion and excitement as soon as you’ve crossed the threshold. All our partners deserve our tremendous gratitude and praise. We’re so thankful to each of them, and to you, for helping us make this phenomenal transition. Many have invested a great deal in MSPP to advance the quality of health care and to upgrade professional practice in business, organizations and schools. We hope to see you soon for a visit!
