Emily awarded Junior Sports Personality
Emily Goring has been awarded the Junior Female Sports
Personality of 2008 in Hereford.
Following a successful year, Emily is honoured to receive this
award, not only for her club Park Wrekin, but also for her
coach Christine Still and gymnastics in the West Midlands.
Emily is an England Squad member and England International.
Well done Emily.
Trampoline
Rhyannon Jones aged 9 from
East Staffs Gym Club in Burton on
Trent has been given a place in the
U12 Home Counties National
Squad. Rhyannon attended the first
session at Loughborough at the
beginning of February.
Emily also
represented England
at the Mayor’s Cup
International in
Vladimir – Russia in
September, 2008.
Building on the success of the Inter Regional and Home Country International weekend in Hull
– November, 2008, another Home International is being through the EGA and arranged to take
place at Cocksmoor Woods Leisure Centre on 28th October, 2009.Also an EGA England
Trampoline Squad Training Camp is being organised for later in 2009. Further information on
both of these events will be published at a later date.
There are only 2 gymnasts from
the West Midlands in any Womens
National Squads - Rhyannon and
Nicole Watson from Park Wrekin
in the Junior National Squad, so
this is quite an achievement.

Regional Awards 2009
The time has come around again for nominations for the West Midlands Regional Awards.These
are intended to reward, in particular, those individuals – gymnasts, coaches, judges and
administrators - who give so much voluntary service to the sport.The Awards in the year 2000
were the last opportunity for ‘catching up’ therefore with the exception of Long Service and
Merit Awards it should be noted that this year's awards to gymnasts and the relevant coaches
are for achievements in the year 2008 only.

The Rhythmic National Technical Committee has
timetabled re-validation courses for the 2009-2012
cycle12.
This re-validation course covers the judging award
levels of Club & Regional Judge (Cycle11).

UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) Update
Assistant Club Coach and Level 1 coach award update to UKCC awards.
From 1st August 2009, any Cycle 5 ACC or Cycle 6 Level 1 (pre-Aug-08) coach who wishes to progress on to a Level 2
award will need to attend a 1-day update course on the 'How to Coach' aspects that have been added into the UKCC
Level 1 award.
These update courses will be run at a variety of venues across the region plus further courses will be run as demand
requires. The courses are non-discipline specific so a coach from any discipline can attend any of the courses, but the
1-day update course must be attended prior to attending the first day of a Level 2 course.
Coaches who wish to remain at Level 1 do not need to attend this update course.
Level 2 courses
From August 2009 the Level 2 courses will change to become UKCC-endorsed. This will have a variety of changes,
including a increase in course length from 3-days to 5-days. Further details will be available once we are informed.
Proficiency Awards Scheme
Coaching Course
British Gymnastics has announced that the Proficiency
Award Scheme Coaching course is now be available to any
club volunteer over the age of 14.
The course is aimed at volunteers who want to help in
clubs for only one or two hours a week and wish to pursue
an informal route into coaching.Volunteers who subsequently
want to pursue a formal coaching qualification can enter
the main UKCC qualification structure at Level 1.
The course is based around the content of the BG
Proficiency Awards that cover 'Pre-School', 'Core' and
'Trampolining'. Each course is for one day (six-hours) and
those holding the award can then help deliver the award
Competition Ages
COACH EDUCATION
schemes to groups of a maximum of eight gymnasts under
the direct supervision of a Level 2 coach. Direct supervision
means the Level 2 coach cannot be coaching their own
group of gymnasts but must circulate the groups supervising
the Award Scheme coaches (i.e. A session with a level 2
coach plus 3 Award Scheme Coaches equals a maximum of
24 gymnasts.)
Award Scheme Coaches will be required to be Associate
Members of the club in which they are operating before
they attend the course, and are expected to complete a
volunteer CRB check through the club.
Courses should be organised through the Regional Course
Co-ordinator using a BG Tutor in a BG-registered club.
Clubs wanting to organise a course for their volunteers
must use a BG tutor in the appropriate discipline and
British Gymnastics has a policy on the minimum ages of gymnasts who can enter competitions at different levels. Please be
aware that if you don't follow these guidelines when entering gymnasts for competitions BG Insurance may be invalidated.
Age Requirement for BG Members to Compete Description of Event
Minimum age 9 in the year of the event All events run by or on behalf of British Gymnastics
or a BG Technical Committee, e.g. events leading to
a national final
Minimum age 8 in the year of the event Events leading to a County or Regional title,
e.g. County or Regional Championships
Minimum age 6 in the year of the event Inter-club events, and events which do not
lead to County or Regional title, e.g. competition
between three local clubs

Discipline Workshop in 2010 and we would
