Five by-forms are recognized which do not require emendation.
In 5:10, ��� is read as a by-form of ��� “young,” and in 5:11,
���� appears as a metathetic variant of cognate South Arabic
msb c “mountain pass.” With the removal of the vowel letter � and
with the change of � to �, MT ����� in 5:16 is read as the infinitive
of ���/��� “to look at, to gaze.” In 5:22, ��� is read as
a by-form of ��� “to be at a distance, to retreat.” The second
����� of 5:22, with the metathesis of the � and �, is read �����
“his chariot.” In 5:8, ��� is read as the metathetic variant of
Arabic ^ ?H (= ���)�“to be courageous.”
