Honor
Pirone
"Hail To The Chief" might
well be the theme ringing in the
V.F.W. Hall in Manvilleon Sunday
evening at 6 p.m. as the
Franklin Band Parents Association
honors their band director,
Jack Pirone, with a
testimonial dinner.
Chairman for the event is
Mrs. Marie Willard, co.chairman
Mrs. Amelia Bielski.
After eight years as director
of the Franklin High Golden
Warrior Band, Mr. Pirone is
stopping down from the podium
and turning the baton over to
assistant director Tom Gall.
Taking over the post of assistant
director will be Geoffrey
Zoeller. Mr. Plrone will continue
tohead the Franklin Township
Music Department as well
as instruct at Sampson G. Smith
School.
Mr. Pirone took over his duties
as Franklin band director in
1.962 with only seventeen band
students. He built the organization
to a present membership of
approximately two hundred and
fifty bandsmen.
Under Pirone’s guidance the
Franklin Golden Warrior Band
marched to victory and acclaim
in numerous appearances
throughout the state and nation.
h mend their laurels are: rep-
resenting the state of New Jer-
sey in the 1969 inaugural
parade; by invitation, entertaining
the crowds at Yankee and
Palmer Stadium, and receiving
numerous championship trophies
awarded to them in stiff
competition both locally and in
Maryland, Arizona, and Washington,
D.C.

Highlighting the last meeting
of the Franklin High School
Band Parents Association for
the school year was the election
of new officers.
Harry E. Stilwell was elected
as president of the organization
for the coming year, along with
Richard Delehanty, first vicepresident;
Peter Boton, second
vice-president; Mrs. Peter Boron,
Treasurer, and Miss Elaine
Voorhees, secretary.

Frank Gerhart
Is Eagle Scout
Frank Gerhart, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Leslie Gerhart of 51
Runyon Avenue, has achieved
the rank of Eagle Scout.
He received official recognition
as an Eagle at a court of
honor held last week by Boy
Scout Troop 20, New Brunswick.
He is a student at Franklin
High School and serves as assistant
scoutmaster with the
troop.

Rudolph W. Sovlnee Jr., son of
Mrs, Freda Mae Sovinee of 88
Garfielcl Avenue, Franklin Town,
ship, recently received a B.S. Oe.
gree in chemistry from Lehigh
University, Bethlehem, Pc.
While at Lehigh Mr. Sovinne
served on the Forum for Visiting
Lecturers Committee, interfaith
Council, Campus Chest Fund,
Newman Association, Lehigh Valley
Moratorium Committee and the
Volunteer’s Council. He particlpared
in intramural wrestling and
the varsity cheerleading squad.
Mr. Sovinee, who has Joined the
Peace Corps, willteach high school
chemistry in Ghana, Africa.
