Work Experience:<br />
1993-1994 Officer, Ministry of Health, Department of External Relations. I was<br />
responsible for the relations between the Ministry and UNICEF (in<br />
Ankara)
1994-1997 Social Worker, Dr. Sami Ulus Child Hospital. I dealt in this hospital with<br />
the social as well as psychological problems of the children who had<br />
chronically illnesses such as diabetes, CA, renal insufficiency, etc. I did<br />
case studies or group working with them. During this job, I worked very<br />
closely in collaboration with Child Psychiatry Division of the hospital. I<br />
also deal with the legal and administrative measures for the new-born<br />
babies which were found alone and taken to the hospital, such as legal<br />
protection decisions, placement into public care institutions, adoption<br />
procedures, etc (in Ankara).<br />
1997-2000 Manager of the Education and Training Department, Ankara Provincial Health<br />
Directorate. I have been organizing specific in-service training programs<br />
for primary health care providers and health education programmes for<br />
general public. I gave particular attention to the education of women<br />
and children and to the development of “health promotion” concept in<br />
health services. I was the editor of our periodical, which is published<br />
quarterly on general health issues. I also have been participating in the<br />
activities of “City Committee on Street Children”, which was established<br />
under the Governor of Ankara, on behalf of our Directorate (in<br />
Ankara).<br />
2001-…. Social Worker, Dr. Sami Ulus Children’s Hospital. Same responsibilities<br />
as mentioned above.<br />
Specific Projects Involved:<br />
2001-2002 Assistant as social scientist, in a joint project of World Health<br />
Organization and Public Health Department of Hacettepe University on<br />
“adolescents’ reproductive and sexual health”. The students of two universities<br />
were selected as study group, and the basic reasons affecting<br />
adolescents’ reproductive and sexual health behaviours were<br />
investigated. I was responsible for carrying out “focus group meetings”<br />
and “deep interviews” with service providers. I also joined other stages<br />
of the project such as writing project reports and papers.<br />
2002-…. Assistant in a joint project of the World Bank and the Ministry of<br />
Health on “Social Assessment of Health” in Ankara. I was assistant of my<br />
associate professor, Sibel Kalaycioglu, throughout the project. I<br />
conducted deep-interviews with both health providers and beneficiaries,<br />
and assisted focus group meetings. I also took part in writing final<br />
project reports.<br />
2003-2004 Researcher for the “Case Study on Integration of Gender Perspective in Health<br />
Policy in Turkey”. The first phase of this study was supported both<br />
financially and technically by Gender Mainstreaming Programme of the<br />
World Health Organization (Regional Office for Europe) and the<br />
second phase of this study received financial support from UNFPA.<br />
The study presented as a “report that has been initiated as a part of<br />
WHO/EURO research activities in 7 countries, namely Ireland, UK, the<br />
Nederland, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Croatia and Turkey. The first phase<br />
of the study aimed at analyzing major health legislations of Turkey to<br />
find out the context and the extent of integration of a gender<br />
perspective in reproductive health policy. In the second phase, research<br />

looked at the health community to see the implementation of laws in<br />
reality and identified the needs in the area of family planning and<br />
unwanted pregnancies in terms of applying gender-mainstreamed health<br />
policy into practice. I participated in both two phases of the study as a<br />
social scientist. I investigated the basic health laws with a gender<br />
perspective. I and another research team member (who was a medical<br />
doctor) made thirty semi-structured in-depth interviews with key<br />
informants in İstanbul, Ankara, Diyarbakır and Mardin. I also joined<br />
actively into the writing final report of the study.<br />
2004-…. I am a member of a working group that was established by the<br />
Department of Sociology at METU on “the labour market and its structure<br />
in Turkey”. It is an inter-disciplinary group, including sociologists,<br />
economists, public administrators, architects, labour economists and<br />
physiologists. The group has been meeting every month since the<br />
beginning of October 2004 and discussing different dimensions of<br />
labour market in a structured way. I organize and prepare agenda of the<br />
meetings and join actively in all discussions.<br />
2005- I am a researcher of a group that was working on Integrated Natural<br />
Disaster Risk Assessment: The Socio-Economic Dimension of<br />
Earthquake Risk in the Urban Area. In this project we are trying to<br />
develop the socio-economic vulnerability index and it is be merged<br />
within the Integrated Natural Disaster Risk Assessment Index.<br />
2006 I am a researcher of European Precarity Network SUPI (Social<br />
Uncertainty, Precarity and Inequality). This network was born to share<br />
objectives, opinions and experiences between European Members and<br />
to make a first step in order to create a scientific community dealing<br />
with the issue “Social Uncertainty, Precarity, Inequality”, to find a way<br />
out to lead the way to greater civil community between social groups<br />
and foster trust in a joint vision of future progress.<br />
2007 I am a researcher of INDI-LINK project. This project was European<br />
project, and we are responsible of evaluation of child well-being index<br />
and unmet need by cause in health.<br />
2007 This school semester I am responsible for giving a lecture at the Social<br />
Policy Department in METU. The title of my course is “SPL511:<br />
Unemployment and Social Policy”.<br />
2008 This school semester I am responsible for giving a lecture at the Social<br />
Policy Department in METU. The title of my course is “SPL512: Health<br />
