Program Several students were contribu-- ' tors to the regular monthly pro-- ' gram of the High School P T A.' last Thursday afternoon. Hazel Foote a Junior, talked on "Texas Literature," discussing the Texas Folklore Society, the Texas Poetry Society, and numerous individuals of Texas who have gained nation-a- l fame as literary artists. She concluded her talk by reading a very appropriate poem by Grace Nell Crowell, entitled "A Prayer For Mothers." Six sophomore students appeared in a short skit "The Dean", which enacted scenes in the office of a dean of girls in a high school. Frances Merle Edwardj played the part of the dean. Could it be the flu or the ride to Breckcnridgc Sunday? o Girl Tennis Players Prepare For Meet Last week was a very busy one for our debators. Monday both the boys and girls team debated the Roby debators. This was just a practice debate with no judges On Wednesday all of our debators went to A. C. C. for the cllmina tion contest. Since only two boys. Duffer and Paul Crawford, have been coming out for "debate, it was not necessary for them to have an elimination, but as four girls have been working for a place on the team, it was neces-sar- y for them to debate each other to see who would constitute the team. Margaret Brecdlove and Ruby Sue Persons will be the team, and Evelyn Adcock will be the substitute While the girls were having their elimination, the boys debated the A C C. Fresh-me- n team and won. Thursday the boys' team went to Hamlin and debated the Hamlin boys team. This was only a practice debate. Saturday our debate teams d in the Abilene Debate Tournament. The boys were de-fete- d in the third round by the Abilene team, which won the tournament, and the girls lost to Santa Anna in the first round. Next weeks debate schedule is well filled also. Wednesday, both .teams will go to Roby; Thursday our boys' team will debate thn (Stamford boys in a chapel pro-graat Stamford; and Friday both teams will go to Seymour to aepaie. Ex Student News While away on business Mr. and Mrs. Wimbish were very delighted to see Theda Maples and Edith Moody who are in training in Temple sanitarium. They were both well and delighted with their educational sights and studies. The sad news came to Mrs. Sal-H- e Fields last Monday of the death of her aunt, Mrs. Laura G. Bull, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. R. Southwell in Austin, Texas, Sunday February 28th. The funeral was held from the MeeksHyltin funeral .home Tuesday at 9 a. m., with the Rev. Chester Puckett, pastor of the Church of Christ officiating The body was then sent to Lubbock for burial on Wednesday after, noon. Children who the body from Austin were Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Southwell, Mr. and Mrs. Will Bull, Mr. and Mrs. Clovis Alvis, Mr. and Mrs. John Bull and Mrs. Guy Ramby. The old-timer- s will remember Mrs. Bull as one of Rochester's first residents. She lived here when the destructive cyclone visited the town. Her house was about the only one left standing, and she turned it Into an improvised hos-pit- accompanied and cared for the injured until other arrangements could be made. Wood-ro- Adcock who has been pastor of the church has resigned to take up post graduate work at Southern Methodist University. The farmers of this section are grateful for the splendid rain. It makes the outlook much brighter. o Mitchell A very beneficial rain was recently received in the community. This will prove of almost unestl-mateabl- e value to the farmers. It was estimated that two inches or more of rain was received. The hail that accompanied the rain was so small that practically no damage was done. Gillespie and John Ivy made a business trip to Santa Anna Tuesday of last week, Mrs. Hubert Dulancy was re moved to her home last week.
