Now's The Time To INSURE
a BETTER MARKET for
Your 10J7
The situation confronting the cotton growers
in this section, a condition brought about by
the extreme dry and drouthy conditions prevailing
during last summer, has impressed the
entire cotton fraternity, including ginners, farmers,
and bankers with the necessity of getting
high-clas- s planting seed for the coming crop.
This action is being stimulated all over the territory,
by those who realize something must be
done, or else a poor prospect is in view for a
good cotton market during the 1937 cotton harvesting
season.
The seed now being used in this section,
according to tests that have been made, show
an extremely low germination, and the fact that
cotton will germinate does not mean that it will
produce a healthy stock of cotton.
In order to increase the yield 'per acre, and
the staple of cotton, the HASKELL territory is
going to be forced to introduce better grade
planting seed from sections that were blest
with more generous rainfall.
Haskell there many
tions in Texas as well as in other parts of the world where only short staple
cotton can be produced.
Why then should we try to compete with the lowest type and cheap labor
when we can produce the type of cotton that spinners are ever seeking.
PEDIGREED SEED
Will Improve the Staple
Realizing the seriousness of the situation facing our
county if large cotton buyers follow their intention
to cease buying the shorter staple cotton produced,
we heartily favor the movement sponsored by
may have to buy cotton strictly on grade and staple
during 1937.
NAPPING
COTTON
Cotton is a dry weather plant and will
stand more heat than most any other commodity,
yet a certain amount of rainfall is essential
to its proper maturity.
The gins and allied business men
by the cotton are alive to the seed
needs of this territory, and are a united
effort to better and a
encourage planting seed,
produce
of a satisfactory
nature. The farmers themselves, realize that in
a majority of instances they are going to have
to sacrifice their old seed, and purchase others.
It is a fact recognized by the cotton dealers,
that during the past year, fewer outside
cotton buyers were attracted to this immediate
section than during any former year. The absence
of these representatives of shippers made
it more difficult to get a good price for the cotton,
and this loss was the more keenly felt by
the cotton raisers.
Cotton factors have warned they may refuse to purchase
though they do it will be at a big discount.
We may have to purchase cotton strictly on staple in
the future and this means short staple cotton will
THE
LATEST REPORT
SHOWS
Approximately 26 per cent Texas cotton untender-abl- e
and in some sections of Texas 70 per cent of the production
was untenderable on contract.
We believe the remedy for this deplorable situation
is the planting of better seed. It will mean many
dollars to the Haskell County farmers this fall when
the 1937 crop is placed on the market.
