Erwin & Riva Baker Memorial Collection. Izak Bebczuk and Rivka Burko were the only members of<br />

their immediate families to survive the Holocaust in the Ukraine. Although the bulk of the collection<br />

centers on Holocaust survivor memoirs and diaries, it also focuses on monographs, pictorial works<br />

and documentary sources concerning the Holocaust.<br />

Founded in 1959, the Jewish Historical Society of Michigan documents over 240 years of heritage in<br />

Holocaust, oral histories. <strong>In</strong>terviews from the archive of Survivors of the Shoah Visual History<br />

Foundation. <strong>In</strong>cludes 14 liberators (12 former US servicemen, 1 Army nurse, 1 Special Services<br />

entertainer), 44 survivors, & 2 Righteous Gentiles. Complete transcripts on file. <strong>The</strong>se interviews<br />

were conducted in the 1980s for the Holocaust Oral History Taping Project of the Jewish<br />

Community Relations Council, Anti-Defamation League of Minnesota & the Dakotas. Some<br />

narrators belonged to the first Allied forces to reach concentration camps at the end of World War<br />

Exhibition provides a chronological history of the Holocaust with personal accounts of Holocaust<br />

survivors who emigrated to St. Louis. Photographs, artifacts, text panels, and audio-visual displays<br />

guide visitors through pre-war Jewish life in Europe, the rise of Nazism and events during the<br />

Holocaust between 1933-1945, and post-war events including the Nuremberg Trials and Jewish life<br />

after the Holocaust.<br />

Materials on Jewish life in St. Louis, from the early 19th century to the present. It is a permanent<br />

ethnic, social and historical resource. Collections include historical records of secular and religious<br />

institutions, family and personal memoirs, business records and local Jewish newspapers. Among<br />

the most significant of the <strong>Archive</strong>'s collections are the papers of the Carnovsky family(1923-1976),<br />

the Cook family and Cook Carriage Company(1899-1954), the Freund family and Freund<br />

Bakery(1900-1954), the Hesse family(1899-1942) and the Schweich family and Schweich Printing<br />

Company(1902-1954).<br />

New Mexico Jewish Historical Society Collection: family papers and articles about Jewish pioneer<br />

families in New Mexico, organized into three series: I. Family papers; II. Administrative records of<br />

the New Mexico Jewish Historical Society; III. Artist papers. <strong>In</strong>cluded are ledgers for various<br />

families and the papers of Charles Gross (Holocaust survivor) and Solomon Bibo (<strong>In</strong>dian trader).<br />

Families included are: the Herzsteins (Clayton); the Gusdorfs (Taos); the Kahns and Spiegelbergs<br />

<strong>The</strong> museum houses an impressive collection of Judaica artifacts. Much of the collection has been<br />

donated and bequeathed by congregants. <strong>The</strong> exhibits are rotated, providing viewing according to<br />

the holidays. <strong>The</strong> Museum is open for browsing and study whenever the building is open, or by<br />

appointment.<br />

the largest collection of <strong>Is</strong>raeli art in the United States. <strong>The</strong> National Jewish <strong>Archive</strong> of Broadcasting<br />

(NJAB) Collection consists of television and radio broadcast materials.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Judaica and Hebraica library of Moses Marx (1885-1973), a native of Germany, is integrated<br />

into the Central Library collections. Mainly history, liturgy & bibliography, with some philosophy,<br />

religion, Bible, and Talmud. Published from 1511 to early 1900's. Most books & pamphlets are in<br />

German, some Hebrew, Dutch, Latin, French, or English. Publications on local German Jewish<br />

communities, and texts & works about the Passover Haggadah.<br />

Jewish Colonization Association fonds consists of statistical summaries for the colony at Bender<br />

Hamlet, Manitoba. Summaries include family names, dates of arrival in Canada, country of origin,<br />

assets, liabilities, and agricultural development on the homestead (1907-1917). Mark H. Danzker<br />

fonds includes Danzker's records from his time as an Alderman (1960-1968), from his campaign in<br />

the 1969 provincial election, his work in the Jewish community (1948-1972), and newspaper<br />

clippings (1948-1978). Also included are 19 black and white photographs. <strong>The</strong> images deal primarily<br />

with Danzker's provincial election campaign in 1969. Chesed Shel Emes Chapel collection consists<br />

of a microfilmed directory of the deceased (1946-1967) arranged alphabetically by year.<br />

SUMMARY OF HOLDINGS<br />

Collections of individuals, institutions, associations, & schools depicting Montreal Jewish<br />

communal history & life during the past 200 years. <strong>The</strong> collections include minutes,<br />

correspondence, programs, flyers, posters, manuscripts, artifacts, a/v materials, photographs,<br />

ephemera, Jewish newspapers, Jewish and non-Jewish 20th century sheet music including<br />

traditional folk, classical, and popular song in Yiddish, Hebrew, French and English. Personal and<br />

professional records from authors, poets, artists, politicians, religious & community leaders, and<br />

families. Records of associations, organizations, camps, community schools (United Talmud<br />

Torahs, Jewish Peoples' School and Jewish Peretz School). Posters are in Yiddish, Hebrew and<br />

English, early 20th century to present. Collection of antiquated books dating from the 15th century.<br />

<strong>The</strong> subject matter of the majority of the collection consists mainly of religious texts and history.<br />

Archival records of McGill <strong>University</strong>; administrative and related records, private papers, include<br />

McGill related and other records, photographic inventory, manuscripts, films, and other records.<br />

<strong>The</strong> David S. Friedman file concerns the work of various Jewish relief agencies collecting funds to<br />

assist European Jews during and after World War I.<br />

<strong>The</strong> 144-volume Gratz Collection was part of the Gratz family's private library (Philadelphia). Books<br />

people and its government. <strong>In</strong>cluded are papers of Jack Shapiro, papers of F. Kahan with copies of<br />

letters written to <strong>Is</strong>rael Hoffer, 1926 1939. <strong>The</strong>re are 12 oral history tapes made by Esther Ghan of<br />

<strong>The</strong>odore Allen Heinrich collection includes records from his time in the U.S. Army attached to the<br />

Monuments, Fine Arts, and <strong>Archive</strong>s Division at the end of World War II. This includes inventories<br />
