Th e annual show opened this week to mark the 10th annual Wings Over the Rockies event in our community. Pynelogs is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Th e Wings art show, featuring works by local artists with a common bird theme, will be on display from April 27 to May 7. Al Markin Anonymous Jack and Carol Marshall Kathy and Keith McPhail Artym hosts ‘Wings Week’ Submitted by Deanna Berrington Artym Gallery In conjunction with Wings Over the Rockies, the Artym Gallery will host an exhibition of Alex Fong’s paintings during the fi rst week of May. Th e Artym will feature brand new paintings by Alex Fong from May 1 to 7 during their regular hours (10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. every day, and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.) throughout “Wings Week.” Look for new bird paintings, amongst Alex’s other fantastical watercolours, landscapes and still lifes. Also on display will be the original painting “ . . . everybody, everyone . . . ” ; the poster image for Wings Over the Rockies” for 2006. Alex Fong’s skill and whimsy, as well as his love of birds, made him the ideal artist to create an image for this year’s Wings Over the Rockies Poster. Taking into account that this is a very special year for Wings (10 years is no mean feat!), Alex created a very special painting. By painting 10 local birds, each year that the Wings festival has been in existence is represented by a diff erent feathered friend. “I love the Columbia Valley,” Alex says, “that’s why I was so excited to do this painting. It just made me that much more aware of how beautiful it is there.” With its surreal, almost mystical quality, the painting itself expresses Alex’s affection for the valley, and the reason why everyone wants to come back to the Columbia Valley, birds and people alike! Since “. . . everybody, everyone . . .” was such an important piece for both Wings Over the Rockies and Alex Fong, the Artym Gallery decided to create reproductions of the piece as a fundraiser for Wings. A limited edition of 24 Ten birds in Alex Fong’s art piece dedicated to Wings very high-quality canvas Over the Rockies - one bird for each year of the event. prints, (called giclées) will be available at the Artym, and proceeds from their sale will go to Wings Over the Rockies. Join Alex Fong at the Artym Gallery on Saturday, May 6th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a “meet the artist” reception and gathering. His work will be featured at the gallery throughout the entire week of Wings Over the Rockies from May 1st to 7th.
