WITNESSES FOR LIFE: LIFE CHAIN
You are invited to take a public stand and be a witness for
life as part of the Life Chain on Sunday October 28 th . Join
other Ascension Parishioners as we again gather for one
hour from 2:30 to 3:30 as part of this National Prayerful
protest. Portland’s event is much smaller than other cities of
equal size. We will again be responsible for the chain on the
east side of Martin Luther King from Cook St to Ivy.

NEW SAINTS –
TWO WOMEN TO LEARN MORE ABOUT.
Saint Marianne Cope, O.S.F., also known as
the Blessed Marianne of Molokai, (23 January
1838 – 9 August 1918) was a Roman Catholic
Religious Sister and a member of the Sisters of
Saint Francis of Syracuse, New York ( an off-shoot of Sister
Celeste’s community). Known for her charitable works and
virtuous deeds, she spent many years caring for the lepers on
the island of Molokai, Hawaii. Despite direct contact with
the patients over many years, Cope was not afflicted by the
disease, considered by some faithful to be miraculous. In
2005, she was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI. On February
18, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI officially announced at Saint
Peter's Basilica that Cope will be canonized on October 21,

Kateri Tekakwitha (pronounced [ˈgaderi degaˈgwita] in
Mohawk), baptized as Catherine Tekakwitha and
informally known as Lily of the Mohawks (1656 – April
17, 1680), was an Algonquin-Mohawk Catholic virgin and
religious laywoman. Born in present-day New York, she
survived smallpox and was orphaned as a child, then
baptized as a Roman Catholic and settled for the last years
of her life at the Jesuit mission village of Kahnawake, south
of Montreal in New France.
Tekakwitha professed a vow of virginity until her death at
the age of 24. Known for her virtue of chastity and corporal
mortification of the flesh, as well as being shunned by her
tribe for her religious conversion to Catholicism, she is the
first Native American woman to be venerated in the Roman
Catholic Church. She was beatified by Blessed Pope John
Paul II in 1980. On February 18, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI
announced at Saint Peter's Basilica that Tekakwitha is
scheduled to be formally canonized on October 21, 2012.
Various miracles and supernatural events are attributed to

COMMUNAL ANOINTING
OF THE SICK
“Are there people sick among you?
Let them send for the priests of the Church, and let
the priests pray over then anointing them with oil” –
from the Rite of Anointing of the Sick.
On this Saturday Oct. 27 th at 11 a.m. we will have
a special Mass and a Communal Anointing. This
sacrament is for those with a serious illness, about to
have surgery, or of advanced age. A reception will
follow the Mass.

El día 2 de noviembre tendremos
la Misa de Difuntos a las 7:00pm en español.
Misa de Recordatorio
Durante el mes de noviembre estaremos honrando y
recordando a todos nuestros seres queridos que han
fallecido. Tendremos un libro con nombres de
personas fallecidas y ese libro se llevara al altar en
todas las Misas del mes de noviembre para pedir por
ellos. Si usted desea agregar el nombre de su ser
querido, llame a la parroquia durante las horas de
oficina: martes, miércoles y jueves de 8:00am a
2:30pm, o los domingos de las 10:00am – 2:00pm.
QUINCEAÑERAS
Recordándoles si quiere tener una
Quinceañera aquí en esta parroquia
tiene que hacer su reservación con dos
años de anticipación, no es una regla,
pero tenemos esta celebración una vez al mes
solamente. El 2012 ya está lleno y para el próximo
año 2013 solo quedan el mes de enero y diciembre.
¿Preguntas? Llamar a la parroquia durante horas de
oficina: martes, miércoles y jueves de 9:00am a
3:00pm. Mis días de descanso son viernes y sábado.

Escuela de Evangelización San Andrés
Todos están invitados a formar parte de nuestra
escuela de Evangelización San Andrés los jueves a
las 7:00pm. Nuestro objetivo es responder al llamado
de Jesús que nos ha enviado a evangelizar hasta los
confines de la tierra, formando evangelizadores que
a su vez formen otros, para nosotros no solo es un
centro de culto, sino también una mesa donde se
distribuye el pan de la Palabra de Dios, para llegar a
tener una Iglesia evangelizada y evangelizadora.
