‘We might lack quality in our play at times, and we can be naive, and we can
make mistakes or bad decisions, but we certainly have not lost games due to a
lack of effort from our players!’
Our players were handed another harsh lesson on Saturday as Petershill struck with a late blow to deny us the
opportunity of retaining the Central Cup.
The game itself unsurprisingly turned out to be as tight as our previous 2 league encounters against them and
I thought our players turned in a good, solid performance against the Premier league title challengers.
I couldn’t fault any of our guys for effort and commitment; in fact I thought we worked our socks off against
what we should appreciate is a formidable outfit. It was a game of few chances and at the end of 90 minutes
only a late defensive error on our part which was punished by one of their substitutes, turned out to be the only
difference between the teams.
I can take plenty of positives out of that performance and although we never created as many chances in the
final third as we would have liked to, sometimes you also have to give credit to your opponents. Despite suffering
a heavy defeat in the Scottish Cup last week, Petershill on Saturday showed us why they have the best
defensive record in the West Premier league by a distance. The fact that they have currently only conceded 6
goals from 13 games in this league campaign is quite a remarkable statistic for a team at this level and it gives
you an indication of just how difficult they can be to break down. Coincidentally, we have actually been responsible
for scoring 2 out of the 6 league goals they have conceded and we are currently the only team to have
scored against them in both home and away league fixtures. In my opinion, you have to put all these things
into perspective rather than let disappointment at losing get the better of you. It has been difficult for our players
over the past couple of months with so many games being postponed due to the bad weather. Continual
training sessions without a game on a Saturday can sometimes result in players losing their focus but as a
group, I can assure you that our guy’s effort and commitment at training has been excellent and I can’t complain
about most of their fitness levels. We might lack quality in our play at times, and we can be naïve, and we
can make mistakes or bad decisions, but we certainly have not lost games due to a lack of effort from our
players!
The big games keep coming this week as we welcome Pollok to Holm Park as both clubs get back to league
business after last weekend’s cup ties. The South side outfit have bounced back to form after a sticky period
and will no doubt be on a high after dumping Beith out of the Scottish Cup last week. From our own point of
view, we can’t afford to dwell on our latest cup exit and we’ll be looking to get back on track with a home victory.
I see no reason why we can’t push on in the second part of the season and we should target to either
match last season’s 4 th place or even better it with 3 rd place in the league, which of course would be an improvement
on last season and would also be our highest ever finish since coming in to the Junior ranks 10
years ago. The players need all the help possible if they are to achieve that target and any vocal assistance
from the terracing would be appreciated.
Onwards & upwards.
Clydebank FC
Running a semi-professional team can be an expensive business - especially one in the top league of the
Juniors. Some teams have input from monied investors, a social club or are perhaps resourced from the sale
of assets. Clydebank FC don't have access to any of these income sources ... but we do have the backing of a
loyal support - the 12th man.
The Bankies have recently launched a scheme to allow fans to commit a regular sum towards maintaining
the club's budget and to help to build on our successful 1st season in the Super Premier - where we punched
above our weight. The scheme is called the 100 Club - and that's what we're looking for people to commit to
- a minimum of £100 per season. That's £8.33 a month or around £1.92 a week.
If you feel you can sign up to this - or have friends or family that wish to support the club ( or perhaps in
memory of a loved one ) - then here's how to do it.
Set up a standing order at the bank ( preferred method )
Pay cash or a cheque made payable to CLYDEBANK FC - send to 3 McLaren Crescent, Glasgow G20 0LD or see
Club Director Bill Abraham at a game
If you are setting up a standing order or sending a cheque then please let us know that you're doing so - by
mailing bill66bankie@yahoo.co.uk. This is also the address if you want more detail.
In return for your input you will receive an exclusive enamel badge and be put into a draw for a matchworn
jersey at the end of the season. You will also be listed on this page in the matchday programme - unless
you'd prefer not to be.
The money will be put to good use and will help us to compete at the highest level.
CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON 2012 / 2013
‘Sometimes I feel too many of us overreact to setbacks.
So much so that I worry about how some will respond
when we suffer a bad season.’
Last Saturday's home cup exit at the hands of Petershill was a huge disappointment but not necessarily on
football terms.
The Glasgow side are one of the best in Junior football as their record over the last two season's shows.
It was always going to be a very difficult game and so it proved.
But despite creating few chances I thought we competed well over the 90 minutes and should have had a
penalty when Gordon Moffat was impeded at 1-0. It was the third home game in our last four that we have
been denied a spot kick at a vital moment.
If we work as hard and show the same level of organization against other opponents we'll win more than we
lose and finish in a healthy league position.
Understandably everyone was a bit down after the game but we have to keep in mind the positives.
Sometimes I feel too many of us overreact to setbacks.
So much so that I worry about how some will respond when we suffer a bad season.
I don't think we have had a bad one yet. That doesn't mean every season has been amazing but I think we
have always been able to reflect on significant footballing highs during each of our campaigns since we
brought the Bankies back from the dead. Football is not usually like that for most clubs.
But it does concern me when some of us act as if there is a crisis any time there is a cup exit or bad result.
We have to keep things in perspective no matter how well or poorly we do.
That said, I started off this piece acknowledging that the Central League Cup exit was a huge disappointment.
It was, in the sense that we have now exited all the cup competitions this season far too early.
The knock-on affect is that we have made very little money from the cups this season.
Of course, we budget for this type of thing but our finances always look a lot healthier when we do well in at
least one of the cups. But lets dwell on the positives.
We are sitting in fourth spot in the league and welcome in-form Pollok to Holm Park today.
The Newlandsfield outfit can leapfrog us today if they win so it's set up to be a cracking encounter.
Please give the players your best support and enjoy the match.
The Fans’ Charter, compiled by James Proctor, captures the
good things about Scottish football and demonstrates that
supporters, clubs and authorities can find common purpose by
listening to each other. What’s been achieved is a common
sense view of football that puts people at the centre of the sport
and provides guidance as to how to take their relationship
forward.
CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON 2012 / 2013 11

Todays Visitors - Pollok
This afternoon Pollok make the short trip through from Glasgow to face Clydebank in this Premier Division clash.
This match was originally scheduled for the opening day of December last year but the fierce winter weather that forced the
cancellation of so many games throughout that month put paid to any chance of the fixture being played in 2012. The Newlandsfield
Park side have completely overturned their faltering start to their league campaign and will be going into this game
confident of taking some points from today’s match. The Lok are the draw specialists in this division this season but their luck
has changed dramatically in recent league matches. They are currently on a decent run of form with four wins, one draw and
one defeat from their last six league outings. Clydebank, on the other hand, are going through a sticky patch and have failed to
score a home goal so far in 2013 after suffering two home defeats this year - as many as the team suffered in the whole of
2012. Bankies form over their last six games sees them record just two wins with one draw and the other three resulting in
defeats.
Pollok began their season in group five of the sectional league cup with Arthurlie, Benburb, Neilston and St Anthony’s providing
the opposition. They kicked off their assault on this trophy with a 5-3 win at Dunterlie Park over arch rivals Arthurlie. Next
time out they could only manage a share of the spoils when St Anthony’s earned a point from a creditable 1-1 draw at Newlandsfield.
However the Lok got their programme back on track with a 5-0 hammering of Neilston in their penultimate qualifier
and won the group after beating Benburb at Tinto Park. In the quarter final they were paired with the winner of Bankies section
and hammered Glasgow Perthshire to march on to the semi-final. Scottish Cup holders Shotts Bon Accord were next on the
radar and they were seen off as Pollok qualified for the final for the first time since 06-07 when they defeated Clydebank at
Maryhill’s Lochburn Park. This time Renfrew provided the opposition but on the evening the Western Park side were no match
and Pollok won 3-0 to lift the trophy.
Despite scoring freely in the sectional league cup Pollok found goals difficult to come by in their early league matches. In fact
they failed to find the net in any of their first four league games. In their opening two fixtures they had back to back no score
draws at Cumnock and then at home to Glenafton. They then suffered two defeats when crashing 3-0 at home to Petershill
and then losing 4-0 at Auchinleck. After that Pollok stemmed the tide and went on a six game unbeaten run. This began with a
win at home against Ashfield and then three successive 2-2 draws against Arthurlie, Rob Roy and Beith.
In their next league outing they added another three points with a 2-1 home win over Shotts before ending 2012 with a 2-1
victory at Rob Roy to move steadily up the table. 2013 began with a very disappointing home defeat against seemingly struggling
champions Irvine Meadow but they did bounce back the following week at New Cumnock with a win over Glenafton.
Seventeen points gained from the first half of the season wasn’t quite the type of form that the Pollok fans would have hoped
for after the torture they endured last season as the club finished in the play-off places. Many neutrals had expected Pollok to
be at the top end of the table before a ball was kicked in anger and their current form has seen them rise steadily up to a more
than decent fifth in the table and their form in recent weeks would indicate that they will most likely finish nearer the top than
the bottom this term.
Pollok have seemingly kept their best form for cup football. Apart from winning the sectional league cup they are still in both of
the main cup competitions. In the West of Scotland Cup they are through to round two after a 2-0 home victory over Neilston
and they face, on paper, an easy home tie against either Dalry Thistle or Dunipace who play each other this afternoon.
In the Scottish Cup they are now into round five after overcoming Beith in last week’s fourth round tie. In the third round they
took care of Bankies conquerors Glenafton Athletic following a narrow 1-0 win at Loch Park. Earlier in this competition they
also saw off the challenges of lower league sides Cambuslang Rangers and Neilston.
Player Of The Week
Scott Walker : Scott has done well in the right back position since
coming into the team this season he has started to look comfortable at
the back and is hoping to establish himself in the starting eleven for
the remainder of the campaign.
Todays Visitors - Pollok
Clydebank have a 100% winning record over Pollok in league football but the Glasgow side just edge it on the total
head to head count. The sides have met eight times before this afternoon’s encounter and currently the record stands
at Clydebank winning three games, Pollok four and the other ending all square but with Pollok winning the eventual
penalty shoot-out on that occasion. The sides have met twice in the Evening Times Cup, both at Glenhead Park, with
Pollok progressing both times but via penalties in one of these meetings. As stated earlier there was a sectional league
cup encounter back in 2006 when Pollok narrowly won the trophy at Lochburn Park after a 2-1 success. The sides also
met in the West of Scotland Cup in a Holm Park fixture where Pollok easily won in a third round tie. Clydebank fans
have much fonder memories of the Scottish Cup clashes between the sides. A few weeks after the West of Scotland
Cup meeting the sides played a two legged Scottish Cup semi-final which went to penalties after Bankies won 3-2 at
Newlandsfield and Pollok won 1-0 in the return fixture at Millburn Park. Clydebank won the eventual penalty decider to
go to the Rugby Park final in what was a terrific achievement for the club at that stage in its development. Last season
witnessed the first league meetings between the sides and Clydebank won both. The first was a magnificent game at
Newlandsfield that had every Clydebank fan grinning like Cheshire cats as Bankies fought back from 3-1 down at half
time to win 5-4, their first league win in this division. The return game also went in Clydebank’s favour as Bankies triumphed
3-1 here at Holm Park. Over these eight games Clydebank have scored fourteen to Pollok’s seventeen and
current Clydebank players Mark Hailstones, Ian Gold, Gordon Moffat and Ross McPherson have each netted against
the Glasgow side.
Pollok fans are unaccustomed to seeing their favourites struggle in this division. As one of only two ever present sides
at this level - the other being Auchinleck Talbot - they have only finished outside the top four twice, ending the 09-10
season in fifth and last term in the unenviable tenth place that brings with it the tense affair of the two game play-off
against the third side in the First Division. Following a sluggish start to their campaign their loyal support can breathe a
little easier as the threat of a finish in the bottom three has eased considerably and a win this afternoon would see them
climb into a top four slot.
Can Clydebank maintain their winning league habit against their illustrious Glasgow visitors? Ninety minutes of football
will tell.
Latest fixture
West of Scotland Cup - 2nd Round South Camlachie YP 3 - 1 Clydebank FC 21' s Scorer - Fraser Urquhart
Despite playing well last week with some excellent football at times we lost this cup-tie due to our inability to put the ball in the
opponents net and some slack defending at the other end of the park.
We dominated the first half and had numerous chances inside the Camlachie box when it seemed easier to score but failed -
Fleming, Easton, McCutcheon, McQueen and Roberts all having opportunities - their keeper also had some excellent saves,
but as happens our opponents opened the scoring late in the half after a slip in the box by our centre back Kyle Cruickshank.
South Camlachie started the 2nd half the better team and our keeper Calum Easton had to make a couple of good saves to
keep us in the game - we got better as they half went on without really reaching the level of the first 45 minutes.
The second goal was also a bit fortunate as Kyle ushered the ball out for a throw outside our box - the ball crossed the line but
the Camlachie player was allowed to play on and set up an easy finish in the box with our players bemused by the Refs decision.
We were still creating some chances of our own but their keeper continued to defy us with some more instinctive shot
stopping and on the break from one of our attacks they made it 3-0. We did eventually score Fraser Urquhart finishing from
Craig McCutcheon's cross ball but it came to late to inspire a real fight back.
Squad - C Easton, R Fairie, J Griffin-Ross, G McQueen, R Fleming, K Cruickshank, R Easton, K Roberts, M Fleming, C
McCutcheon, R Hutchison, F Urquhart, M Bird, A Rodgers, R Jackson
Titan Talks To…Joe Andrew
This week Titan had a chat with Bankies striker, Joe Andrew.
What is your earliest football memory?
Having a kick about in the street and getting asked to sign for Dunfermline boys club by a delivery driver.
Favourite ground played at?
Although it was deserted, Hampden was amazing. I've played there a few times.
Who is the best player you've played with/against?
There's been a few that I've played beside growing up that should have definitely made it but for different reasons haven't.
Played against Aaron Lennon for Scotland's under16s and even then he was unbelievable.
Do you still have ambitions to make it back to senior level?
Not really, I prefer it in the juniors as there is less traveling.
Thing you enjoy most about playing for Clydebank?
We have a good bunch of lads and on our day we can beat anybody.
Did you set a goal target for the season?
Not really, but I'd say 15 would be a decent start!
Who is your player of the year so far?
Ha-ha that would be telling.
(We'll take it from that he's voting for himself!)
What can this Bankies team achieve this season and beyond?
Hopefully we're up there in the run in at the end of the season and if a few results go our way who knows
but if we keep this squad together and add more consistency then we should be up challenging for trophies.
Thanks again Joe....
