24 <strong>State</strong> <strong>Bar</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong>
We’ve come a long Way, too!<br />
1995:<br />
<strong>State</strong> <strong>Bar</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong><br />
Legal Assistants Division<br />
today:<br />
PARALEGAL DIVISION<br />
PROUD SPONSOR OF THE<br />
2011 ANNUAL MEETING BENCH & BAR CONFERENCE<br />
• 1995—the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong> Supreme Court amended Rule 24-101(B) NMRA <strong>of</strong> the Rules<br />
Governing the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong> <strong>Bar</strong> to create a division <strong>of</strong> the <strong>State</strong> <strong>Bar</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong> for<br />
legal assistants. On August 26, the Division’s first meeting was held.<br />
• 2003-2004—the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong> Supreme Court amended its legal assistant rules to<br />
conform to the national trend <strong>of</strong> use <strong>of</strong> the term “paralegal” changing the name <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Legal Assistants Division to the Paralegal Division.<br />
• The Division is one <strong>of</strong> only a handful <strong>of</strong> state bar paralegal divisions nationwide and is<br />
the only statewide pr<strong>of</strong>essional organization for <strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong> paralegals.<br />
• Division members enjoy the same <strong>State</strong> <strong>Bar</strong> benefits as attorneys and in addition have<br />
access to the Division’s website, a share site for networking, CLE seminars that are<br />
video-cast throughout the state and more.<br />
