Plainview Elks Lodge # 1175 Invites you to join the Offi cers and Members of the B.P.O.E. #1175 Plainview, in the celebration of “Flag Day” at the Running Water Draw Park Gazebo near Kidsville, 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12th, 2011. Teada Short and Vince Limon will play saxophone and members of the Plainview High School Navel Jr. ROTC will act as color guard. Eight fl ags that will be carried are those that have fl own over the United States in her history, beginning with the fl ag of the original 13 colonies. The ceremony will last about 45 minutes. The ceremony has a long history with the Elks. The San Diego Lodge of Elks fi rst held a Flag Day program on June 16th, 1904. It was adopted by all Elks Lodges after the Grand Session in 1908. Elks have been a charitable organization since 1868. Some of our charitable accomplishments are listed below: Nationwide • Elks sponsor the largest student athletic event in the United States with an annual participation exceeding three million. • Elks provide over $200 million dollars of benevolence each year, primarily assisting children. • Elks are the largest provider of student scholarships in the United States. • Elks are one of the largest providers of drug awareness literature to the schools. Texas • Each year prosthetic and adoptive devices are provided for children with challenges throughout the State. • Every year free summer camps are provided for children with challenges. • Every year over 1.5 million is spent on benevolence - primarily assisting children. The Elks have pledged not to forget our nation’s veterans. Each year they visit hundreds of thousands of veterans at VA Medical Centers, State Veterans Homes and facilities, providing companionship and enhancing the veterans’ level of comfort.
