SOUTH AFRICAN RUGBY TOUR 2004 In late July and early August, a squad of 27 boys and five staff will be undertaking the first long-haul rugby tour since 1999. The tour will last approximately three weeks and will involve playing six games, taking in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban. ‘Off-field’ experiences planned will include a tour of the Cape Peninsular and visits to the Table Mountain, Rourke’s Drift, Isandlwana (also the site of a battle) and a game reserve. The major cost of the tour will be met by the parents of the players, but over the coming weeks there will be various fundraising events, including an Auction of Promises, for which we are seeking sponsors prepared to donate goods and services for auction. If any Old Brutonian would like to contribute in any way, we should be most grateful. We should also welcome Old Brutonian support on the touch-line and can supply OB’s in South Africa with a tour schedule. When the fixtures are finalised, we will publish them on the OBA web-site. I can be contacted by telephone (01749 814239) fax (01749 813426) or e-mail (cab@kingsbruton.somerset.sch.uk). Craig Barrow, Master i/c Rugby 1st XI HOCKEY 2004 At the time of going to press, the 1st XI Hockey results were not available in their entirety. However, OBs may like to know that there were victories over Taunton and Clayesmore, while the U18 squad came fourth in the RAF Cup, beating Wellington School 2-1 and Wells Cathedral School 2-0. 1ST XV FIXTURES 2004 Sat.
